AFC Snub: James Cook, RB, Buffalo Bills
2 of 3
The omission of James Cook was, in his own words, "bullsh*t."
He kind of has a point.
Cook, the second-biggest offensive catalyst of a Buffalo team that won 13 games and reached the AFC Championship Game, did everything he could to get the nod. His 16 rushing touchdowns matched Derrick Henry and Jahmyr Gibbs for the most in the NFL. Cook's 4.9 yards per carry were fifth-most among the league's 16 1,000-yard ball-carriers.
He also fumbled just once all season (and didn't lose it) and padded his stat sheet with 32 receptions on 38 targets for another 258 yards and two more scores. This was a Pro Bowl season by any measure—it's just somehow missing the actual honor.
NFC Snub: Baker Mayfield, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
3 of 3
Baker Mayfield spent half the season without Chris Godwin and didn't have Mike Evans for a spell. Mayfield still found his way to 4,500 passing yards (third overall) and 41 passing touchdowns (tied for second).
Oh, and he even powered Tampa Bay to an NFC South title. If that isn't a Pro Bowl-caliber effort, it's hard to say what is.
He made the Pro Bowl last season, elevated all of his production and missed the cut? That's hard to calculate. And he wasn't just productive from a volume perspective, either. His career-high 71.4 completion percentage ranked third-best among starting quarterbacks.
This was, by many metrics, the best season ever put together by the top pick of the 2018 draft. It should've earned him a full-fledged Pro Bowl selection.
