Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, Ewers Among Underclassmen to Declare for 2025 NFL Draft
The 2025 NFL draft is starting to take shape.
On Thursday, Dane Brugler of The Athletic shared a list of 70 underclassmen who have declared for the draft, including Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, Heisman Trophy finalist Ashton Jeanty and Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers.
He also noted the list could expand in the future since Ohio State and Notre Dame players have an extended deadline since they are participating in the College Football Playoff national championship game Monday:
The implementation of a 12-team CFP meant the college football season would go longer than ever before, which led to some alterations when it came to the NFL draft calendar.
Grant Gordon of NFL.com explained in November that players participating in the national championship game would have a deadline of Jan. 24 to declare for the draft and 72 hours to revoke their submissions should they choose.
"On the opposite end, an early soft deadline of Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, will be put into place for players whose seasons have been completed at an earlier date," Gordon wrote. "The traditional hard deadline for special eligibility will be Jan. 15."
Players can also choose to opt out of the draft and potentially return to school by Feb. 7.
Many of the underclassmen will join graduating seniors at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis from Feb. 24 through March 3 as they begin taking the next step toward their futures. The actual draft is in Green Bay, Wisconsin, this year and will take place from April 24-26.
It would be anything but a surprise if some of these underclassmen hear their names called early in the proceedings in April.
B/R's NFL Scouting Department released its latest mock draft earlier this month and projected Hunter to go No. 3 overall, Michigan cornerback Will Johnson to go No. 4 overall, Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham to go No. 5 overall, Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan to go No. 6 overall, Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter to go No. 7 overall Georgia defensive back Malaki Starks to go No. 8 overall, Texas A&M defensive end Nic Scourton to go No. 9 overall and LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell to go No. 10 overall.
All of those players are on the list Brugler shared Thursday.
While the quarterbacks frequently dominate headlines when it comes to the NFL draft, there is no shortage of talent at a number of different positions in this year's group. Every team picking early in the first round will have the chance to land a franchise cornerstone, many of whom will come from the list of underclassmen.
