Report: Travis Hunter Graded as Full-Time CB Who Can Play Snaps at WR by 3 NFL Teams

At least three NFL teams see two-way college star Travis Hunter as mainly playing defense in the NFL, according to NFL.com's Lance Zierlein.

Those teams see Hunter as "a full-time cornerback who can take some snaps at WR," per Zierlein.

Hunter played almost every snap while serving as both cornerback and wide receiver during his final season with Colorado.

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner said in December interview with NFL.com's Mark Schlabach that he is "super confident" he can continue to play on both sides of the ball at the professional level.

"I'm not going to let anyone tell me that I can't do something that I already done," Hunter said, per Schlabach. "They said I couldn't do it in college, and I ended up doing it in college. A lot of people tell me I can't do it in the NFL, but I'm going to still do it in the NFL."

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders meanwhile said in a December appearance on the Rich Eisen Show that teams should only consider drafting Hunter if they are prepared to play him on both offense and defense.

Hunter is rated as the top overall prospect at cornerback in Bleacher Report's latest 2025 NFL Draft Big Board. B/R NFL Scout Cory Giddings described Hunter as a player with "the tools to become a perennial Pro Bowler and one of the top cornerbacks in the league."

That upside may be influencing teams to focus on Hunter's potential at cornerback rather than his development as a wide receiver.

With several quarterback-needy teams scheduled to select within the first five picks, top signal callers like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders could be prioritized early in the draft. Hunter is still projected to end up among the top five picks. How he splits his time between offense and defense at the next level could hinge on which team selects him in April.
