TNA Genesis Predictions: 4 Title Matches, Angle/Storm and More

Kyle SchadlerJun 7, 2018

TNA Wrestling presents Genesis, live on pay-per-view tonight!

As soon as Final Resolution went off the air, TNA started hyping this PPV. It's been quite a while since a TNA PPV had this much hype behind it.

TNA is starting 2012 with a bang and what better way to do that then with your first PPV of the year?

Tonight's show has eight matches scheduled, four of which are title matches. Six of the eight matches have a beautiful amount of hype and have great stories behind them.

The other two are just kind of there but should be good matches.

TNA began last year on a bit of a low note then hit rock bottom. Tonight they're starting the New Year out with a solid looking card and look to make the first part of 2012 a time to remember.

Here is the card for TNA Genesis and who I think will come out on top!

Rob Van Dam vs. Gunner

1 of 8

Well this match came out of nowhere.

Gunner has been taking people out for the past few weeks putting the likes of Garret Bischoff, Jesse Neal and Douglas Williams in the hospital.

His next target was Rob Van Dam but unlike the others, the Whole F’N Show put up a fight.

After reversing one piledriver to the concrete and the agents breaking up a second attempt, this match was set up.

Yes, this match only has that hype to go behind it.

It could be worse, TNA could have announced this match seconds before one of them headed to the ring like WWE does on occasion.

With Gunner on the rise and rumors of Rob Van Dam heading back to WWE, I’m giving this one to Gunner.

Winner: Gunner

D’Angelo Dinero vs. Devon

2 of 8

I can’t believe this low-card feud has lasted this long.

This started in June when Dinero tried to help Devon in his fight against Mexican America.

Since then they’ve gone from friends to enemies so many times I’ve lost count.

The basis of this feud has been Devon’s two sons.

His two kids, Terrence and Terrell, worshipped the Pope due to his cool demeanor and flashy character.

They would jump the guard rail on multiple occasions to help Dinero during an attack and that would result in their father screaming at them.

He wanted them to follow the way he taught them and he didn’t think Dinero was someone anyone should look up to.

After failing to win the Tag Team Championship from Matt Morgan and Crimson, Dinero turned on Devon again and convinced his kids to do the same.

The last time we saw any hype for this feud was a few weeks ago when Devon was attacked backstage by the Pope and his own children.

This feud needs to move on and just end. Seven months is way too long for a low-card feud to continue.

Devon should be sent to OVW to train wrestlers while D’Angelo Dinero should at the very least be in contention for the Television championship.
That’s why I’m giving this to the Pope.

Winner: D’Angelo Dinero

Abyss vs. Bully Ray: Monster’s Ball

3 of 8

If Abyss loses, he must rejoin Immortal.

The Abyss/Bully Ray feud has been going on since Abyss lost the X-Division Championship at Destination X in July.

It was Abyss’ job to destroy the X-Division and he had failed.

The entire Immortal stable would then abuse Abyss both physically and mentally. Being the bully that he is, Bully Ray would be the worst offender.

The abuse got so bad that the Monster was no longer a monster.

Abyss would never fight back but the anger was brewing up inside him.

When Hulk Hogan felt the power of his own Hulkamania at Bound for Glory, he turned on Immortal and Abyss soon followed suit.

The Monster set his sights on Immortal but wanted Bully Ray’s head most of all.

Afraid, Eric Bischoff ordered Bully Ray and Scott Steiner to bring Abyss back into Immortal because they needed him.

Abyss answered with a Black Hole Slam to Steiner and a challenge for the bully. This match was officially booked but now Bully Ray has the momentum going into this match.

This past Thursday in a big six-man tag-team main event, the heels ended the show with their face opponents in pain, which included Bully Ray choking Abyss with a chain.

Immortal needs to go away and if it must stick around I definitely don’t see Abyss being a part of it.

Abyss will be taking out his overall frustration with Immortal on Bully Ray and that will result in victory.

Winner: Abyss

James Storm vs. Kurt Angle

4 of 8

Right after Bound for Glory, James Storm realized his dream. He defeated Kurt Angle for the TNA World Championship and the fans loved every second of that moment.

His dream was cut short, though, when his partner Bobby Roode turned heel and took the title away from him.

Before his scheduled rematch, someone attacked Storm backstage and left him covered in blood and with a concussion.

It was soon revealed to be Angle that took him out because he was pissed that Storm beat him for the title.

Since then the two have had a war of words with neither wrestler one-upping the other, though Storm’s mic work was improving considerably.

At Final Resolution, these two wrestlers put on a great match that resulted in the Cowboy defeating the Olympic Gold Medalist.

James Storm has been on a role thanks to this feud and both his in-ring ability and mic skill have improved big time.

This past Thursday Angle gained the upper hand in the feud when he locked the Ankle Lock onto Storm and kept it on as the show ended.

Kurt Angle has all the momentum going into this match and that will lead to victory.

Then at Against All Odds, we’ll get the rubber match between these two great competitors.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Gail Kim vs. Mickie James: Knockout’s Title

5 of 8

With Karen Jarrett gone and Sting now in charge of the Knockout’s, Gail Kim could be in big trouble.

Since Sting took control he’s been much more fair to the Knockouts who weren’t Gail Kim and Madison Rayne.

At Final Resolution Gail managed to defeat Mickie to retain her title but that was with Karen in charge. Could Gail do it again?

The fans found that out a few weeks later as Sting gave Mickie another shot in the main event of Impact Wrestling.

It was a great match, but with some help from Madison, Gail was able to retain the title once again.

It’s because of Madison’s interference that Sting is giving Mickie one more chance at the title.

This past Thursday Gail gained the momentum going into the match when her and Madison retained their Knockout’s Tag Team Championship against Mickie and Traci Brooks, but is it enough to retain her singles title?

I think that it is.

I love Mickie James and am a huge fan of hers, but her last reigns as Knockout’s champion were complete busts.

So far Gail is making for a great champion and I think her reign at the top will last for a little while longer.

Winner and Still Champion: Gail Kim

Matt Morgan and Crimson vs. Samoa Joe and Magnus: Tag Team Titles

6 of 8

TNA’s once great tag-team division is in complete disarray and is a disaster.

With many teams in TNA being broken up due to injury or singles pushes as well as being fired, TNA was left with Mexican America.

Mexican America were just a cheap knockoff of the Latin American Xchange and brought nothing to the table.

Then the team of Matt Morgan and Crimson were formed and things changed a bit.

Two very talented wrestlers were put together and destroyed then-champions Mexican America.

The division was looking up. That was until the fans realized that Morgan and Crimson had no competition.

Then TNA created the Wild Card Tag Team Tournament to bring forth challengers for the titles.

With some very interesting pairings, Samoa Joe and Magnus proved to be the superior pair and won the right to challenge the champions.

Throughout the tournament Joe and Magnus showed that they really had chemistry as a team and could be tough opponents for the champions.

Will this newly formed team of Samoa Joe and Magnus defeat Matt Morgan and Crimson?

I don’t think so.

While I feel that TNA will keep Joe and Magnus together as a team, it’s too early to give them the titles.

Of course, they did give Morgan and Crimson the titles on their first night as a team.

No, the champions will retain here.

Winners and Still Champions: Matt Morgan and Crimson

Austin Aries vs. Kid Kash vs. Jesse Sorenson vs. Zema Ion: X-Division Title

7 of 8

I’m calling it right now; this will be Match of the Night.

Austin Aries has pretty much single handedly revived the X-Division.

His skill in the ring as well as on the mic has brought attention back to the division, especially when he won the X-Division Championship.

Aries’ “I am the greatest man that ever lived” attitude has helped him take down every challenger that stepped in front of him.

Now he must face three at the same time.

Kid Kash is a veteran of the ring who has spent time in ECW. He’s not afraid to get extreme and has shown that his in-ring ability is still up there with the younger talent like Jesse Sorenson.

Sorenson has been in the spotlight alongside Aries and Kash for a few months now and the fans are starting to get behind him. He’s a great in-ring talent and isn’t afraid to fly when he needs to.

A Double has defeated both of those men on multiple occasions but he hasn’t had to go up against someone like Zema Ion.

Ion’s charisma and in-ring skill sets him apart from most of the division and gold is certainly in his future.

This past Thursday all four wrestlers competed in a tag-team match which saw Sorenson and Ion defeat Aries and Kash.

It was a great match and if it’s any indication of how this match will go then I’m quite excited.

This will no doubt be match of the night and the X-Division will shine big time.

As for the winner, I’m giving it to Austin Aries. It’s just not time for him to lose it yet.

Winner and Still Champion: Austin Aries

Bobby Roode vs. Jeff Hardy: World Heavyweight Title

8 of 8

At Bound for Glory, TNA dropped the ball on Bobby Roode. When Kurt Angle beat him I thought that was it for the TNA original.

Then James Storm won the title and Roode became the No. 1 contender.

One heel turn later and Roode is now the TNA world heavyweight champion.

And a champion he has been.

Roode’s in-ring work was already solid but mic work was never his strong suit. Since turning heel his work on the mic has been superb and no one can touch him at the moment.

At Turning Point, Roode defeated A.J. Styles and went to a time limit draw with him at Final Resolution in an iron man match.

Roode defeated the best TNA had to offer but now he must face an opponent who’s more unorthodox.

Let’s just get it out of the way now, Jeff Hardy screwed up at Victory Road last year. There’s no denying it. Even Hardy admitted and apologized for his actions that night.

Since then he has proved himself to the roster as well as the fans that he can be trusted and depended upon once again.

After defeating Jeff Jarrett in a steel cage, Hardy became the No. 1 contender for the title.

As the weeks passed, Roode has had the upper hand on his challenger every step of the way.

This past Thursday the show went off the air with Roode choking the life out of Hardy with a crossface.

The Charismatic Enigma isn’t without momentum, though, as he and Sting put the champion through a table a few weeks ago.

If Hardy is healed, then this should be a great match.

If not, it’ll still be quite good as Roode knows how to structure a match and could work around Hardy’s injury.

If TNA gives Hardy the title so soon, I can pretty much guarantee that Bleacher Report will be in an uproar about how it’s a bad idea.

While I don’t think it’s a bad idea to give him the title, I just don’t think it’ll happen so soon.

Bobby Roode is on a roll right now and taking the title off of him would be a mistake.

This match will be going to the champion.

Winner and Still Champion: Bobby Roode
