Chase Herbstreit, Son of ESPN Personality and Former OSU QB Kirk, Commits to Michigan
Class of 2025 quarterback prospect Chase Herbstreit, the son of ESPN analyst and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, decided not to follow in his father's footsteps.
The young signal-caller told Hayes Fawcett of On3.com on Sunday that he has committed to Ohio State's biggest rival, Michigan.
Chase Herbstreit is ranked as a 3-star prospect and the No. 128 quarterback in the 2025 class by On3.com, and he is unranked in 247Sports' composite.
During his senior year at Cincinnati St. Xavier, Herbstreit threw for 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns while also adding 649 rushing yards and eight more scores.
On3.com director of scouting and rankings Charles Power suggested in his evaluation of Herbstreit that he could have a bright future and exceed his recruitment rankings.
"The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder looks to have a strong grasp on the pro-style offensive scheme and is comfortable working from under center. He's added arm strength and displays good zip on intermediate passes," Power stated in October. "We've also seen Herbstreit become more of a run threat as a senior. He's effective in avoiding pass rushers and is more than capable of picking up chunks of yardage as a scrambler and on designed runs. The level of improvement and the general competitive nature Herbstreit shows has us feeling he will maximize his talent."
Of course, Kirk Herbstreit remains a diehard Ohio State supporter after attending the university from 1989 to 1993 and starting at quarterback for the Buckeyes as a senior, so it will be fun to see where he places his loyalty now that his son will be spending his collegiate career at Michigan.
