The Winners and Losers from the U.S. Army All-American Game 2012

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

While everybody was caught up in the hype of the bowl games, there was a game that helped change the future of some college football programs. It was called the U.S. Army All-American Game, and it featured tons of top prospects from around the country.

Through the game, several players finally committed to the schools they will play for through the next few years of their football careers.

Some schools walked away better after the game, and some schools will lose sleep due to disappointment.

Here are a few winners and losers from the U.S. Army All-American Game.

Loser: Oklahoma State

The Cowboys have a great young running back in Joseph Randle, but were hoping to get the son of a running back legend. After all, Barry Sanders went to Oklahoma State, so why wouldn't Barry Sanders Jr.?

Instead of following in his dad's footsteps, the 5'10", 195-pound quick running back decided to go to Stanford.

This is huge for the Cardinal, as Andrew Luck is leaving, and will keep Stanford relevant in the football world. For the Cowboys, this one hurts. It would have been real exciting seeing him run around in Mike Gundy's offense.

Winner: Miami

Miami missed out on several players in the Under Armour Game, but really made up for it in this game when they landed two top players.

One of the top safety prospects in Deon Bush made his commitment to the Hurricanes, as did defensive end Tyriq McCord.

Both are extremely athletic players and are ranked at the top of their class at their respective positions.

Miami already had a top recruiting class. These two commitments will only improve that.

Loser: USC

Sure, USC did land a top safety in Kevon Seymour, but they missed out on Ellis McCarthy.

A solid secondary player is nice to have, but huge athletic defensive tackles don't grow on trees—especially guys that are 6'5" and over 300 pounds.

What makes it even worse is that McCarthy decided to go to California, which of course will mean the Trojans will see a lot of him.

The Golden Bears are continuing to improve their loaded recruiting class, but USC has to look elsewhere for their run-stopper.

Winner: California

California had a talented team this season, but really underachieved.

Coming into the U.S. Army All-American Game, they already had one of the top classes. They got even better as they landed three top players.

Jordan Payton, who is a top receiver in this year's class, made his commitment to the Bears. He should be a great possession receiver.

Cal also landed one of the top defensive tackles in Ellis McCarthy, who is huge at 6'5", over 300 pounds and will fill running lanes well.

They also picked up one of the top safeties in Shaq Thompson, who is arguably the best overall defensive player in this year's class.

California is a team that's really on the rise and will soon be competing for Pac-12 titles.
