NFL Trade Rumors: Panthers' Jaycee Horn, Hubbard Won't Be Moved amid Johnson Deal

The one-win Carolina Panthers reportedly traded wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Baltimore Ravens, naturally bringing up the question of whether they will deal other players before the Nov. 5 deadline.

However, Carolina is reportedly keeping cornerback Jaycee Horn and running back Chuba Hubbard despite interest around the league, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Horn, who the Panthers selected with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, has been sensational in eight starts, amassing 34 tackles, nine pass breakups and one interception. Per Pro Football Reference, opposing quarterbacks have only completed 44.7 percent of their passes in his coverage.

Hubbard, a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, has amassed 701 total yards and four touchdowns in eight games. He's rushed for 5.0 yards per carry as well, and his 593 rushing yards rank fifth in the NFL.

The Panthers previously picked up Horn's fifth-year option for $12,472,000. If the Panthers don't plan on trading him, one can gather that the team hopes to keep him around long-term, a sentiment that makes sense given how well he's been performing this year.

Carolina may be a team in turmoil struggling at the bottom of the NFL standings, but it also needs to search for building blocks moving forward, and Horn seems like one.

Hubbard, though, is an impending free agent who could strike a nice deal. If the Panthers aren't planning on trading him, perhaps they are interested in re-signing him this offseason.

He has fared quite well when given the opportunity, and he enjoyed a five-game streak earlier this year that saw him post a touchdown and/or 100 total yards.

Ultimately, both Horn and Hubbard could be around long-term. Jared Feinberg of Panthers Wire noted the importance of potentially retaining them.

In the meantime, the 1-7 Panthers are trying to break a five-game losing streak. Up next is a home date with the 2-6 New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
