Aaron Rodgers and 13 NFL Players Who Need to Step in the Wrestling Ring

David LevinJan 10, 2012

We have all seen it.

I'm talking about the Aaron Rodgers insurance commercial where the couple is mocking him for his "title belt" move that is certainly a sign he is a wrestling fan.

Heck, he wore a championship belt after the Packers beat the Steelers (I am pretty sure the belt is more prestigious than the TNA Television Title).

If he has a love for the business that much, can't you see him in a ring after his football career is over and possibly see a future as a world title holder?

Rodgers isn't the only NFL player who needs to show how tough he is. There are a handful of current stars who would probably fare pretty well in the squared circle—maybe even make some noise like Leon White (Vader) did in WCW.

There have been many football players over the years who have turned their attention to wrestling (Ron Simmons, Butch Reed, Steve McMichael) and been champions.

Do any of these football stars have a championship of gold around their waist in the future?

Jared Allen, Minnesota Vikings

The hunter is so intimidating looking.

He could be a cross between Billy Jack Haynes and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

His finishing move could be "the sack."

Pat Angerer, Indianapolis Colts

2 of 14

Just the name alone is enough to warrant time in the ring.

On a team that was depleted on both sides of the ball, Angerer was one of the league leaders in tackles.

I think he means business.

Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots

He was one of the biggest cult heroes and successes this year. With an All-American look, he could be as big as John Cena (That's no lie).

"The Gronk" would be a fan favorite, that's for sure.

James Harrison, Pittsburgh

He hits you high. He hits you low. He just plain hits you.

Harrison is a beast and needs to let some of that frustration out.

A wrestling ring is perfect for that.

AJ Hawk, Green Bay Packers

5 of 14

"The Hawk," with his long hair and reckless style, is perfect for the wrestling ring.

Hawk may not be able to tackle like the best linebackers in the NFL, but the ring is smaller, which would give him a great opportunity to put his man down on the mat.

Albert Haynesworth, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Haynesworth is a hassle waiting to happen.

He is big, powerful and brutal, and would make an awesome heel. Couldn't you see Haynesworth and Mark Henry as two "Towers of Power?"

Santonio Holmes, New York Jets

7 of 14

Has he become the resident bad boy in New York? Holmes has made a name for himself in the Big Apple in just a short amount of time.

Holmes leaping ability and speed make him a likely high-flyer.

Ray Lewis, Baltimore Ravens

He is the bull in the China shop.

There is no one more intense than Ray Lewis, who will knock your head off if you let him.

I would love to see what he could do in a Battle Royal.

Clay Matthews, Green Bay Packers

9 of 14

He could be AJ Hawk's tag team partner—awful hair and all.

But Matthews is as intense as any wrestler today, and he would certainly be a crowd favorite if he and Hawk represented Wisconsin like former AWA wrestlers used to do on a weekly basis.

Terrell Owens, Free Agent

A few years ago, I said he and former 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia needed to get in the ring and settle their differences.

I still believe that.

If it was a steel cage match and Garcia's wife, and former WWE Diva Carmella was at ring side, that's even more reason to have the match.

Troy Palomalu, Pittsburgh Steelers

11 of 14

The hair alone is like the old Samoans. He would be awesome in the ring like Superfly Snuka.

If Vince McMahon cannot get some mileage out of that act, no one can.

The Pouncey Twins

12 of 14

They are huge and would be great as a gimmick in the ring. They could also win the WWE World Tag Team Titles.

Maurkice and Mike Pouncey are both interior linemen, so they can move their weight around pretty effectively.

Fans of CWF would eat it up if the former Gators would come train in Tampa.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

13 of 14

Oh, it's true! Rodgers is holding the gold.

And with that comes some great opportunities, and commercials and guest appearances.

But wouldn't you like to know if he can move in the ring?

Ndumukong Suh, Detroit Lions

14 of 14

He is the league's new resident bad boy.

And if can stomp on linemen in the field of battle, just think of what he can do in a wrestling ring.
