LeBron James, Bronny Joke About Prank in Viral Nike Video Ahead of NBA Debut
The prank LeBron James played on Bronny James by filling his car with cereal before the Los Angeles Lakers' season opener might have been more effective if the rookie didn't have other vehicles to drive to the Tuesday night game.
"Thank god that wasn't my car," Bronny James said about the prank after the Lakers' win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
LeBron James added: "He has multiple cars, now. He opened that one, then got in another one."
Bronny James made his NBA debut while playing three minutes off the bench in the Lakers' 110-103 win over the Timberwolves.
James missed on two shot attempts in his brief time on the court, including an opportunity coming off a potential assist from his father.
LeBron James meanwhile recorded 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting in his 1,493rd career NBA game.
When Bronny James subbed in to join him in the second quarter, they became the first father and son to play together in an NBA game.
They are also the fourth father-son duo to ever play a professional sports game together, joining the Hartford Whalers' Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe, the Baltimore Orioles' Tim Raines and Tim Raines Jr. and the Seattle Mariners' Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey Sr.
The cereal prank, which was made in a video that also featured likely product placement for Fruity Pebbles and Nike, wasn't the first time the younger James has been the subject of gentle "hazing" ahead of his NBA debut.
James was seen carrying his belongings around in a shiny backpack in Las Vegas on Oct. 15, a Lakers rookie hazing tradition, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
Now that the No. 55 pick of the 2024 draft has officially made his Lakers debut, Bronny James could be spending some time away from the team. His struggles early in the preseason and the limited minutes he received in his rookie debut indicate that head coach JJ Redick and the Lakers could be planning for him to develop in the G League before joining the NBA full-time.
