Chelsea Transfer News: Selling Frank Lampard to Manchester United Isn't Insane
Selling club legend Frank Lampard to Manchester United is not an insane move for Chelsea even after everything the star midfielder has done for the club.
The Daily Mail has reported that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is thinking about making a bold move for the Blues midfielder, who has not been a regular in Andre Villas-Boas' starting XI recently.
Ferguson said the following regarding Lampard on Friday:

"You are not going to tell me Chelsea would sell Frank Lampard to Manchester United in January. Do you really believe that? 'Chelsea are like us. They want to do something. 'The second half of the season is going to be important to them. If they want to try and win the league they will need to have all their best players.
"
Would Lampard even be OK with making a shock move to Old Trafford?
"However, Ferguson believes that Lampard represents a unique opportunity to add something significant to his squad and was delighted to this week hear of suggestions that the former West Ham midfielder would consider a move north to Manchester.
"
While it seems unlikely that Lampard would go to one Chelsea's fiercest rivals during this month's transfer window, stranger things have happened.
Lampard, 33, is not going to play a prominent role for Chelsea this season and despite doing so much with the club throughout his storied career, it's extremely frustrating to be sitting on the bench when you know you have more to give.
With 18 months left on his contract, it's time for Chelsea to move on and allow the younger players to lead the club into the future.
Lampard would give the Red Devils' midfield another playmaker who despite his diminishing skills, could still be a good fit for a United squad that desperately needs more talent in the middle third of the pitch due to injuries.
Ferguson has to do something in the transfer window to improve his club for another Premier League title run. United is currently second in the league table, three points behind leaders and rivals Manchester City.
The club has lost its last two league matches to Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United and need some reinforcements in the transfer window to have a chance at winning a trophy this season.
Frank Lampard wearing the red colors of Manchester United is a hard image for Chelsea fans to imagine, but for an aging star, not being a regular part of the lineup is very frustrating.
