NFL Exec: 49ers 'Aren't as Deep as' Usual but 'People Would Trade' to Be in SF's Spot
Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers have been holding down the fort as well as expected, standing at 3-4 despite a plethora of injuries.
Star running back Christian McCaffrey has been out the entire season to this point with an Achilles injury, while receiver Brandon Aiyuk will reportedly be sidelined for the rest of the year with a torn ACL.
The team may not be on the way to a 12-5 season like last year, but NFL executives have told The Athletic's Mike Sando that a lot of teams would like to be in their position despite the teams injuries struggles.

"A lot of people would trade their situations with San Francisco," one exec told Sando. "They just aren't as deep as they typically have been."
Coming off a Super Bowl season, the 49ers don't appear as formidable as they did last year, but they are far from being the worst team in the league or in need of a major rebuild.
A significant factor in this is the absence of Christian McCaffrey, whose talent complements Brock Purdy's style of play. Last season, McCaffrey scored 21 touchdowns and recorded a career-high 1,459 rushing yards.
The 49ers have a strong core at the center, but they need to make a few key decisions to enhance their depth and fill the gap left by future key injured players.
"They need to make a decision about whether they should just be moving on from this older core and building around Purdy, or do they trade Purdy, get stuff for him and go with a cheaper option at quarterback?" an exec told Sando.
Therefore, the key decision this offseason will be how to adjust the roster to add depth to their already successful team.
