DK Metcalf Suffered MCL Sprain vs. Falcons; Seahawks HC Says Not a 'Long-Term Injury'

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf reportedly avoided a significant knee injury during Sunday's win over the Atlanta Falcons that would have put his season at risk, but he still may miss some time.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Metcalf suffered a Grade 1 sprained MCL and is seen as "week to week" moving forward.

The receiver suffered the injury in the third quarter while landing awkwardly on a catch attempt. He was carted to the locker room but seemed to have avoided a worst-case scenario with this diagnosis.

"Doesn't look like it's a long-term injury," Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters Monday. "Timeline, I'm not sure. It doesn't look like it's a long-term injury. You guys know DK. We know DK. He's going to probably do anything humanly possible to be able to play in this game, I would imagine. We'll assess that as the week unfolds."

Metcalf played well against the Falcons prior to the setback and tallied four catches for 99 yards and one touchdown. It was more of the same for the Seahawks' No. 1 option, as he fell just one yard short of his fourth 100-yard showing through the first seven games of the season.

In all, he has 35 catches for 568 yards and three touchdowns on the campaign. Only Cincinnati Bengals star Ja'Marr Chase has more receiving yards this season.

The two-time Pro Bowler appears well on his way to a third straight campaign with more than 1,000 receiving yards, although his individual momentum could come to a stop if he misses time.

The Seahawks would also be hard-pressed to replicate his production during an important upcoming stretch where they play potential Super Bowl contenders in the Buffalo Bills before three straight NFC West division games.

Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba will surely see more targets if Metcalf is sidelined, but Seattle may also rely more on the rushing attack of Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet as a way of staying ahead of schedule on offensive possessions and controlling the clock without its top option in the aerial attack.

But it seems like Metcalf will be back on the field in the relatively near future as the Seahawks chase a playoff spot in the NFC.
