Jets Rumors: Mike Williams Trade Not Expected This Week After Davante Adams Deal
After being placed on the trade block by the New York Jets following Tuesday's acquisition of Davante Adams, veteran wide receiver Mike Williams reportedly could have to wait a bit before he finds a new home.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that he's "not expecting a deal this week, but stay tuned."
Williams signed a one-year deal with the Jets this offseason after spending the first seven seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. Unfortunately, he's been off to a slow start through the first six weeks and experienced chemistry issues with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Fowler added that while the Jets "appear comfortable moving on, I'm hearing he is open to a trade and the team knows that."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
A torn ACL cost Williams 14 games in the 2023 season, so he's still working his way back into form. While he's appeared in all six games for New York, he's been targeted just 17 times and recorded 10 catches for 145 yards with no touchdowns. His average of 14.5 yards per catch leads the team.
To make matters worse, amid their three-game losing streak, the Jets' losses against the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills both ended with game-sealing interceptions on passes thrown by Rodgers while he was targeting Williams. Against Buffalo this past Monday night, in particular, Rodgers revealed after the game that Williams ran the wrong route, causing the signal-caller to fire an underthrown pass that didn't reach the mark.
The acquisition of Adams provides Rodgers with his favorite receiver from his tenure with the Green Bay Packers, so the Jets are certainly hoping that these mistakes won't remain a theme going forward.
With Adams expected to make his team debut on Sunday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jets could choose to make Williams a healthy scratch until they find a trade partner for him.
