Video: Jerod Mayo Says Patriots Let Drake Maye Down in QB's 1st NFL Start vs. Texans
Following the New England Patriots' 41-21 loss against the Houston Texans on Sunday, head coach Jerod Mayo told reporters "we let (Drake Maye) down," in his first NFL start.
"It was his first game and I feel like I let him down," Mayo said in today's post-game conference. "I'm sure all of the coaches feel like we let everyone down."

Maye completed 20 of 33 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns along with two interceptions in the contest.
With the blowout loss against the Texans, the Patriots fell to 1-5 on the season.
Maye, the 2024 third overall draft pick, earned his first start this weekend after the Patriots benched 31-year-old Jacoby Brissett following a 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday, where Brissett completed 18 of 34 passes for 160 yards and no touchdowns.
Mayo has been with the New England coaching staff since 2019, first as an inside linebacker coach and then as a linebackers coach. In his first year as head coach, the Patriots sit in last place in the AFC East and are 31st in total points this season.
The 38-year-old coach praised Maye for his work ethic prior to his first start on Sunday.
"He definitely gets in here early. He's in every meeting… He's a very hard worker. He's a competitor," Mayo told Patriots All Access. "He grew up in a house where his dad was a great, tremendous athlete, his mother as well and he has his brothers. So, he's a great competitor and he's gonna do what he has to do to get the job done."
The Patriots will look to secure its second win of the season next Sunday against the 1-5 Jacksonville Jaguars in London, England.
