Eagles Rumors: A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith Expected to Return from Injuries vs. Browns

Timothy RappOct 7, 2024

The Philadelphia Eagles should be getting a nice boost on the offensive side of the ball heading out of their Week 5 bye.

According to B/R's James Palmer, the Birds are expected to have back star wideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith for a Week 6 tilt against the Cleveland Browns.

The 27-year-old Brown has missed the past three games for the Eagles with a hamstring injury, depriving Philly of its best weapon in the passing game. Last season he caught 106 passes for 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns, remaining one of the top wideouts in football.

Brown was off to a fast start in the 2024 season as well, with five catches for 119 yards and a touchdown in a Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers.

His counterpart, the 25-year-old Smith, missed the team's Week 4 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a concussion. He's been excellent to open the 2024 campaign, registering 21 receptions for 219 yards and a score in three games.

Philly's injury issues on the offensive side of the ball have been a storyline to start the season, as star offensive tackle Lane Johnson also missed the game against the Bucs due to a concussion but is expected back in Week 6.

Having a bye week early in the season gave them the chance to not only get healthy but also reset after a shaky 2-2 start to the season.

The team's early form, combined with an absolute meltdown last season following a 10-1 start, has head coach Nick Sirianni firmly planted on the hot seat. He was preaching a message of resiliency and positivity following the Tampa loss, however.

"We went through adversity here already after the Atlanta game and we got better from it," he told reporters regarding his message to the team. "Use it. Get better from it. We're going to get better from this."

Getting back players like Brown, Smith and Johnson will certainly help.
