NFL Rumors: Davante Adams Requests Trade; Raiders Seek 2nd-Round Draft Pick, More

Timothy RappOct 1, 2024

Las Vegas Raiders wideout Davante Adams informed the team on Tuesday he prefers to be traded, according to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, though there is "nothing imminent" at the moment.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Raiders want a package that includes a second-round pick in return for the wideout:

NFL reporter Jordan Schultz offered more context on the situation:

"Adams has been considering a trade request out of Las Vegas for weeks. Last season, his camp even approached the team about a potential change of scenery, but made no official request. Adams is aware that his contract makes a trade possible, and he has a few preferred destinations if the Raiders decide to move him. The New York Jets are one of those teams." "

Adams didn't exactly deny that his time in Las Vegas might be coming to a close during an appearance on the Up & Adams show on Tuesday:

Adams didn't play for the Raiders in Week 4 due to a hamstring injury, and trade rumors heated up on Monday after head coach Antonio Pierce appeared to like a post on social media that said Adams might have played his last down for Las Vegas.

Adams said he hasn't heard from Pierce after Pierce supposedly liked that post:

"Honestly, it's hard to comment on," he noted. "You could imagine as such. It's one of those situations where I keep my head down and keep doing my thing, and let the chips fall where they may as it pertains to that. There's been no communication with anybody from the team since that became a thing. But it's kinda like the weekly 'What's up with Tae?' thing. There's always some sort of drama."

Then earlier on Tuesday, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the Raiders were "growing open" to the idea of trading Adams and had "begun reaching out to teams to gauge interest in the veteran wide receiver."

NFL Network's report that followed seemed to confirm as much, as did other reports that began making the rounds:

Adams, 31, remains one of the better receivers in football, with 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown in three games this season. The six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro selection exceeded 1,000 receiving yards and 100 receptions in five of the six seasons leading into 2024 and has posted double-digit touchdowns six times in his career.

Any number of teams could look to upgrade their receiving core with Adams. The Kansas City Chiefs are dealing with major injuries at the position, though it's hard to imagine the Raiders dealing Adams to a divisional rival.

A reunion with Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets or Derek Carr on the New Orleans Saints could also make sense, while the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers are contending teams with thin wideout rooms who could end up being suitors.

Ultimately, a team's salary-cap situation and the assets it is willing to part with will also play a huge factor in whether it gets into the Adams sweepstakes. But it seems as though Adams will be suiting up for a new team before long.
