Mayo: Jacoby Brissett is 100% Patriots' QB1 Over Drake Maye After 49ers Loss
Despite the New England Patriots' 1-3 start to the 2024 season, head coach Jerod Mayo isn't considering a quarterback change.
Mayo confirmed that veteran Jacoby Brissett will continue to start over rookie signal-caller Drake Maye when speaking to reporters on Monday. New England selected Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
"Jacoby is 100 percent our starter, and that's how we're going to look at this going forward," Mayo said, per Alex Barth of 98.5 The Sports Hub.

Brissett has struggled to open the year, as the Patriots own the worst passing offense in the league. The 31-year-old has completed 60.4 percent of his throws for a mere 536 yards in four starts, recording two touchdowns and one interception.
After securing a surprising Week 1 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, New England has now lost three straight contests. The Patriots have struggled to stay competitive as of late, getting outscored 54-16 in their past two games.
Maye briefly made an appearance near the end of New England's 24-3 loss to the New York Jets on Sept. 19, finishing 4-of-8 for 22 yards while adding another 13 yards on the ground.
In three preseason games, the former North Carolina standout completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 192 yards.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that Maye is "still a ways away from being on the field."
Mayo's decision to keep Maye on the sidelines likely isn't due to a lack of confidence in the rookie, but rather a choice to keep him out of a bad situation. New England's offensive line has struggled to hold up in pass protection, as the team's 17 sacks allowed represents the second-highest mark in the NFL.
However, Maye could end up seeing more action if the Patriots' offense continues to struggle. He won't starting against the Miami Dolphins in Week 5, though.
