Bryce Young Rumors: Panthers QB's Trade Value is Day 3 Pick; Lance Deal a Blueprint
The Carolina Panthers would likely have to absorb a massive loss if they were to trade quarterback Bryce Young, according to Mike Jones of The Athletic (h/t Joseph Person):
"The consensus around the NFL is that although he went first overall in 2023, Young's value on the trade market is a Day-3 draft pick. A fourth-round pick seems like the most value Carolina could command if team officials decided to trade Young. The deal that Dallas and San Francisco agreed to that involved the Cowboys giving up a fourth in exchange for [Trey] Lance serves as the blueprint for a potential Young trade."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
The Arizona Cardinals fared better when they famously dealt Josh Rosen in 2019, one year after selecting him 10th overall. They landed a second- and fifth-rounder from the Miami Dolphins.
Granted, Young might be an even more distressed asset than Rosen coming off his rookie year. The 23-year-old struggled in 2023 and looks like he's going backward in his development.
Benching Young didn't help his cause. Regardless of what the team says publicly, a demotion this early into his career is a vote of no confidence.
Andy Dalton's first start only weakened the Panthers' leverage since the offense looked much better with him under center. He went 26-of-37 for 319 yards and three touchdowns to help power a 36-22 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Maybe that performance was merely an aberration, but it doesn't look good on Young when a veteran journeyman is such an immediate upgrade. One would assume the odds of him getting the starting job back this season are much less as well.
Days after moving the Alabama product to the second string, head coach Dave Canales told reporters a trade was "not something we're really considering."
A coach in his position can't really say anything else, but his remarks also might reflect how doing a swap now would be the textbook definition of selling low.
If the best they can do right now is a Day 3 draft pick, then the Panthers might as well stand pat and reassess things in the offseason.
