Yankees' Boone: Juan Soto Day-to-Day with Injury, Not Concerned About Playoff Status
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Juan Soto is day-to-day after hurting his leg while making a sliding catch into the wall in foul territory against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).
Boone also said that he isn't "overly concerned" that the injury will follow Soto into the postseason.
Soto was initially in the lineup for the Yankees' series opener against the Oakland Athletics on Friday but was scratched due to soreness and swelling in his knee. His X-rays were negative and he will not need additional testing, according to Boone.

While Soto might have to miss some time because of the impressive catch on Thursday, Boone praised him for making the play in such a way that prevented a more serious injury.
"Guys do a good job of knowing how to protect themselves and playing smart in certain situations," Boone said. "I think him getting down the way he did protected him a little bit. Obviously, he bruised it and he's out today. But I think the way he did it avoided something serious."
The first-year Yankee is having a career season, hitting a career-high 40 home runs to go with 103 RBI and a .286 batting average. Soto and New York clinched a playoff berth Wednesday night and currently sit at the top of the AL East at 89-64, four games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles with just nine games left to play this season.
The addition of Soto has added to an already potent Yankees lineup, and he could be the missing piece that leads to New York snapping its 15-year World Series drought.
