Panthers' Bryce Young: 'I Didn't Do Enough' as QB1 Before Benching for Andy Dalton
Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young took responsibility for his performances to open the 2024 season following the team's decision to bench him on Monday.
"For the last year and these first two games, every snap hit my hands and I didn't do enough with it at the end of the day," he told the media on Thursday. "I take accountability for that."

"If I went out there and played better and we won games, at the end of the day that falls on me that it didn't happen, we wouldn't be having this conversation," he added.
Veteran signal-caller Andy Dalton will replace the 23-year-old under center for Carolina's Week 3 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Despite the benching, Panthers head coach Dave Canales still "absolutely" believes the 2023 No. 1 overall pick can be a franchise quarterback, per Joseph Person of The Athletic.
"This is a developmentally minded program, so the development didn't stop," he said. "Every rep he's out there, we're evaluating the whole thing, having conversations and just continuing to push all of our guys, including Bryce, to take that next step."
Young was off to a rough start to the season, completing just 55.4 percent of his throws for 245 yards and zero touchdowns compared to three interceptions through two appearances.
Carolina sits at 0-2, getting outscored by a combined total of 73-13 in losses to the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers.
After racking up 2,877 passing yards and 11 touchdowns against 10 interceptions as a rookie, Young didn't show the progression many expected entering his sophomore season. It's worth noting that the Panthers' offensive line play has been subpar and Canales is already the third head coach Young has played for in his brief NFL career.
However, the poor supporting cast still isn't enough to justify the quarterback's inconsistency in 2024 and ultimately led to his benching. It's clear Young knows he needs to improve in order to run the first-string offense once again, and it's a promising sign that he's already taking responsibility.
In the meantime, Dalton is set to start for the Panthers against the Raiders. Kickoff is on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.
