NFL Insider: Jets' Aaron Rodgers 'Not the Magician He Used to Be,' Compared to NBA PG
While Aaron Rodgers got his first win in a game that he started and finished with the New York Jets on Sunday, the reviews for his performance through two games this season are mixed.
Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, one veteran AFC personnel man used a basketball analogy to assess Rodgers' ability at this stage of his career.
"More of a point guard distributing at this stage," the person said of Rodgers. "Not the magician he used to be."

Despite his name recognition, it was unrealistic to expect Rodgers to play like he did during his peak years with the Green Bay Packers. There aren't many examples of a 40-year-old quarterback playing at an elite level, let alone one who was coming off a torn Achilles.
The most noticeable element from Rodgers' game that is missing is mobility. His ability to move in and around the pocket when pressure comes isn't what it once was, but he's doing his best to avoid those situations.
Per NFL's Next Gen Stats, Rodgers' time to throw of 2.46 seconds is the third-fastest in the league. Only Jayden Daniels (2.33) and Tua Tagovailoa (2.4) get rid of the ball quicker.
This has put a ceiling on what the Jets' passing game is capable of doing, but it's keeping Rodgers healthy as he continues to get acclimated to playing NFL defenses again. He still has the accuracy and arm talent to make throws that very few quarterbacks in the league are capable of.
The more concerning aspect of New York's offense through two games is how inefficient they have been running the ball. They have the seventh-worst run-block win rate in the NFL, per ESPN. Breece Hall is averaging a career-low 3.9 yards per carry.
If the rushing attack doesn't improve and Rodgers continues to play in such a way that the offense lacks explosive plays, then the Jets could be in trouble as they look to end their 14-year playoff drought.
For now, though, letting Rodgers work things out to see what he can do at this stage of his career is what he should be doing.
Rodgers and the Jets' offense figure to be tested in Week 3 when they host the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
