NFL Rumors: Travis Kelce Told Chiefs He Has 'at Least 2 More Good Years Left'

Jack MurraySep 5, 2024

Travis Kelce is looking at at least a couple more seasons in the NFL

Dianna Russini and Nate Taylor of The Athletic reported that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end told the team in April that he had "at least" two more seasons left in his career.

"The four-time, first-team All-Pro selection and nine-time Pro Bowler told Chiefs coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach before signing a contract extension in April that he thinks he has at least two more good years left in his career, according to a team source," Russini and Taylor wrote."

Kelce spoke about his future in June and acknowledged that he will have some opportunities in his post-playing career but that he still enjoys the gridiron and feels like a "little kid" in the Chiefs training facility.

"I really can't put a timeframe on (retirement)," Kelce said, per Russini and Taylor. "I love coming to work every single day. Obviously, I know there's opportunities outside of football for me. You have to keep in perspective that I'm still a little kid when I come into this building, man. I know I'm 34 years old, but I have a love to do this right here, in the middle of the heat in June. I love coming to work every single day."

Kelce is entering his 12th season in the NFL and has put together quite the career. He has 11,328 career receiving yards with 74 touchdowns, has been named to nine Pro Bowls and helped the Chiefs win three Super Bowls.

He showed possible signs of slowing down in 2023 as he failed to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2015. However, his 984 yards still led the Chiefs and his strong performance in the postseason showed how he still has a heavy impact on the game.

His brother, Jason, retired following the 2023 NFL season and the Chiefs' recent success could allow Travis to enter his post-playing career on a high note. Instead, it looks like Kelce is going to give it a go until he can no longer compete up to his current standard.

Kansas City opens up the 2024 NFL season Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens.
