Report: Scott Hanson's Contract With NFL Media Set to Expire After 2024 Season

Scott Hanson's time as the face of NFL RedZone could be coming to an end soon.

According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Hanson's contract with NFL Media expires after the 2024 season. Hanson had signed his current contract in 2021.

McCarthy noted that Hanson "could draw lucrative offers from NFL broadcast partners such as NBC Sports, Fox Sports, ESPN or Amazon Prime Video." YouTube TV was also named as a potential suitor, as it could use the addition of Hanson to help increase Sunday Ticket subscriptions.

Hanson is entering his 16th season as the host of NFL RedZone, having hosted every episode of the popular all-league coverage show since it debuted in 2009. However, the 53-year-old's profile grew even bigger this summer when he hosted NBC Sports' Gold Zone coverage of the Paris Olympics.

Molly Solomon, executive producer and president of NBC Olympics production, told McCarthy that Hanson's presence helped the company re-think its future coverage for events like the 2026 Winter Games in Milan and the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

"Scott brought his inimitable enthusiasm and energy to Gold Zone. NFL fans loved watching him transfer his 'all-in' mentality from football Sundays to the Paris Olympics," Solomon said in a statement. "Each of our four hosts brought his own unique personality to the show, and Scott was certainly a key contributor to our process of re-imagining how Gold Zone could be experienced and consumed going forward."

Hanson thanked NFL Media for allowing him to do the Olympics coverage while speaking to reporters last month.

"It was an amazing experience, hosting Gold Zone during the Olympics, and hearing from fans and media critics alike that we have apparently changed the way people watch the Olympics now," he said. "It's similar to what people tell me all the time on NFL RedZone for football."

McCarthy added that Hanson leaving NFL Network "seems far-fetched," but noted that anything is possible in the evolving media landscape that has seen major deals handed out in recent years. It would be hard to imagine NFL RedZone without Hanson, but it sounds like it's at least a possibility.
