Joey Chestnut to Enter Bratwurst Eating Contest During Bengals vs. Patriots Halftime
Six days after setting a new world record by eating 83 hot dogs in buns in 10 minutes, Joey Chestnut is set to make his NFL halftime show debut with yet another eating competition.
Chestnut will be competing in a 5v1 "Oktoberfest bratwurst eating challenge" during the Cincinnati Bengals' Sunday season opener against the New England Patriots, the team announced on Tuesday.
Chestnut set his latest world record on Labor Day in a Netflix livestream event that pitted him against longtime rival Takeru Kobayashi.
"I'm hungry for whatever's next," Chestnut said after winning the competition.
The Bengals halftime show, which will pit five other competitors against Chestnut, will not be the first time the world record holder has faced uneven numbers in an eating competition.
Chestnut faced a team of four soldiers in a Fourth of July hot dog-eating contest at the Fort Bliss army base in El Paso, Texas. The soldiers ate a combined 49 dogs in five minutes, while Chestnut won by consuming 57 before time was up.
This also is not the first time Chestnut has entered a bratwurst-based competition. In 2021 Chestnut won his 10th bratwurst-eating title at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati by eating 68 brats in 10 minutes.
Chestnut holds 55 world records across different eating categories, according to Major League Eating. In addition to hot dogs he has set records for eating eggs, asparagus, gyros, pulled pork sliders, tamales, grilled cheeses, pastrami, whole turkeys and more.
Chestnut's ban from his signature event, the annual Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest held at Coney Island on the Fourth of July, has not stopped the 16-time champion from taking the world stage.
Now he will be in front of national audiences once again when he takes the field halfway through the Bengals' season opener.
