Fever's Caitlin Clark Explains Development in WNBA: I 'Understand the Game Better'

Doric SamSep 2, 2024

Star rookie Caitlin Clark has helped lead the Indiana Fever to four straight wins, and she believes she's learned a lot so far in her first year in the WNBA.

"I think I just understand the game better," Clark told reporters after Sunday's win over the Dallas Wings. "I'm more comfortable with my teammates, more comfortable on the floor. I think just playing a little more free, being more aggressive."

Clark dropped 28 points and dished out 12 assists to help lead the Fever to a 100-93 win over the Wings. It was her second straight double-double and her fifth game with over 20 points in seven outings since the WNBA returned from its break for the Paris Olympics.

Clark's recent run is an improvement from her tough start to the season in which she dealt with some inconsistencies. The former Iowa star struggled to adjust to the physicality of the professional level and looked fatigued at times after leading the Hawkeyes to back-to-back trips to the national championship.

The time off has clearly worked wonders for Clark, as she's playing with a renewed energy that has helped put the Fever in a position to compete for a playoff spot. Indiana improved to 17-16, marking the first time this season that the team has a record above .500. Sunday's win marked the first time the team has recorded 100 points in consecutive games in franchise history.

In addition to Clark's strong play as of late, Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell has also found her footing. She scored a game-high 36 points in Sunday's victory against Dallas and has eclipsed the 20-point mark in seven straight games.

Indiana will try to earn its fifth straight win when it returns to action on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Sparks.
