Steelers' Justin Fields: 'I've Shown What I Can Do' to Be QB1 Over Russell Wilson
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has not publicly named Russell Wilson or Justin Fields as the team's starting quarterback, but the latter believes he's shown what he can accomplish in pursuit of QB1 honors.
"I think I've shown what I can do," Fields said Thursday, per ESPN's Brooke Pryor. "I think the time that I did have with the [first team] practicing in training camp, I think that went well. I think we grew a lot each and every day, but at the end of the day, it's not up to me.
"I mean, I'm just going to come in here every day, each and every day, the same person, being a leader for this team and work my butt off, and everything else will be handled."

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
As Pryor noted, Tomlin said Wilson had "pole position" on the job entering the offseason. He will also start the Steelers' final preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday. The coach previously told reporters that the team will play starters in that matchup.
In the team's most recent preseason game (a 9-3 win over the Buffalo Bills), Wilson started and played five series. Fields then stepped in and played five series.
Wilson completed 8-of-10 passes for 47 yards, while Fields completed 11-of-17 passes for 92 yards and added 42 rushing yards on eight carries.
Ultimately, it still appears Wilson holds that pole position, especially with Tomlin telling reporters Thursday that "nothing has changed in terms of positioning of those guys."
And with Wilson starting the Steelers' second and third preseason games, it appears to be a formality that he'll be named the QB1.
That hasn't happened as of yet, but signs point to Wilson getting the call when the Steelers visit the Atlanta Falcons for Week 1 on Sept. 8.
Whether Wilson is the starting quarterback all year remains to be seen, though, so perhaps Fields gets that call at some point.
