Caitlin Clark Applauded by WNBA Fans for Breaking Rookie Assist Record in Fever's Win
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are rolling out of the Olympic break.
Indiana handled the Seattle Storm with relative ease during a 92-75 victory in Sunday's showdown at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to improve to 13-15 overall with a second straight win out of the break.
Clark finished with 23 points, nine assists and five rebounds, while teammates Kelsey Mitchell (27 points) and Lexie Hull (22 points and 6-of-7 from three-point range) also impressed in the blowout win. Jewell Loyd did what she could for the Storm with 26 points, but it was nowhere near enough to counter the Fever.

Not only did Clark help spearhead the win, she set the WNBA record for most assists in a single rookie season and drew plenty of reaction from social media:
All eyes were on Clark entering play for good reason.
For one, she was coming off an excellent game with 29 points, 10 assists and five rebounds in a win over the Phoenix Mercury as she appeared fresher after the Olympic break. What's more, she needed just two assists to surpass Ticha Penicheiro's all-time WNBA rookie record of 224 for a single season.
Having the opportunity to do so against a star-studded Seattle team with Loyd and Nneka Ogwumike leading the way only made it all the more intriguing, and she wasted no time setting the record by finding Hull in transition for an easy basket.
It was the highlight of a back-and-forth first half that saw the home team take a one-point lead into intermission, and the dazzling passes continued into the third quarter as Clark continued to set up Aliyah Boston down low and Mitchell on the wing and on the break.
The passing was all the more important because Clark struggled with her outside shot for the majority of the game even though she also set a Fever franchise record for three-pointers made in a rookie season with 77.
Yet she found a way to supplement her facilitating by scoring inside the arc, which is all the Fever needed with Mitchell catching fire, Hull drilling threes off the bench and Boston (15 rebounds) dominating the boards.
The fourth quarter turned into a party in front of the home fans as the three-pointers continued to fall, and Indiana looked the part of a dangerous challenger for some of the best teams in the league.
It will look to maintain that momentum on Saturday against the Minnesota Lynx.
