Landon Collins to Alabama: 3 Reasons He Should've Listend to Mom and Gone to LSU

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

Last night, during the Under Armour All-American Game, Alabama landed a couple of top prospects to join their already stacked football team. One of the top safeties, Landon Collins, was one of them.

Collins was torn between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers. But he made his decision and went with Alabama. Although, his mother made it very clear that she believes he's making the wrong decision and should have gone with LSU.

"I feel as if LSU is the better place for him," she said. "LSU Tigers are No. 1."

Here's a few reasons why she's right.

Home Field

Although LSU and Alabama aren't exactly far away, it's not Louisiana. That's where Collins is from, and maybe that's why his mother is upset with his decision. You know how moms are: always overprotective, and they want you close by to make sure nothing happens to you.

There is nothing like being home, and Tigers Stadium provides a home-field atmospheres that you can get only at a handful of other places in college football. Then, when Collins needs some good home cooking before a big game, he wouldn't have to travel so far to get it.

LSU Needed Him More Than 'Bama

LSU is thin at the safety position, and with Brandon Taylor and Derrick Bryant seniors this season, that list gets even shorter. They also haven't done much at the position this year in recruiting either, as they have a commitment from Jerqwinick Sandolph. But he's nowhere near the same caliber as Collins is.

Of course, Alabama could always use a talented player such as Collins, but they're deeper at the position. With players like Will Lowery and Robert Lester, the Tide didn't absolutely need a top safety right away.

When it's a toss-up between two great schools, you might want to go with the school that needs you more. You'll probably get on the field a little bit sooner.

Winning

3 of 3

We all know both programs are top notch, they will always be in the running for SEC titles and, of course, national championships. But the last several years, it appears that LSU has Alabama's number. They have won seven of the last nine meetings against them.

It also seems like Les Miles is always getting the upper hand on Alabama coach Nick Saban as well. Things could change, but the Tigers have won nine of their last 12 against the Crimson Tide.

In a game that is so huge and could very well determine the winner of the SEC, picking the right team could be the difference between a national championship.
