Katie Ledecky Leaves Fans in Awe with Dominant 1,500 Meter Freestyle Olympic Win
Katie Ledecky once again left fans at a loss for words to describe her dominance as she rolled to a win in the 1,500-meter freestyle Wednesday in the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The 27-year-old set an Olympic record, finishing in 15:30.02, to best the mark she set during the last Summer Games in Tokyo. France's Anastasia Kirpichnikova earned the silver and was more than 10 seconds behind when she touched the wall for the final time.
This is nothing new for Ledecky, who has dominated the 1,500-meter freestyle unlike almost any other athlete has in their given speciality.
Still, watching her race hasn't lost its magic. No matter how many times we've seen it before, it remains astounding watch Ledecky build a massive lead on the field and become the only swimmer in the frame on a television broadcast.
Ledecky, who also won a bronze in the 400-meter freestyle, isn't done yet in Paris. She's entered in the 800-meter freestyle, a race she won in each of the last three Summer Games.
Her qualifying heat is scheduled for Friday at 5:40 a.m. ET, and the medals will be handed out at Saturday's final. For Ledecky, it's an opportunity to get the better of Ariarne Titmus after the Australian prevailed in the 400 free.
