Red Sox Rumors: Roman Anthony 'Untouchable' amid Trade Buzz; MLB's No. 14 Prospect
While the Boston Red Sox were aggressive in making improvements ahead of the MLB trade deadline, they reportedly never intended to trade one of their top prospects.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that outfield prospect Roman Anthony was "basically untouchable" in trade discussions. Anthony is Boston's No. 2 prospect and the No. 14 prospect in all of MLB.
There had been some speculation that Anthony was on the move on Tuesday when MLB.com's Jon Morosi reported that he was scratched from the lineup at Double-A Portland, but Morosi followed up to say that it wasn't trade related.

In 74 games this season, Anthony is hitting .247 with 11 home runs and 34 RBI. He won the inaugural All-Star Futures Skills Showcase earlier this month with a strong showing in the three skills competitions.
The Red Sox managed to make improvements despite holding onto Anthony. On Tuesday, Boston completed deals for relief pitchers Luis García and Lucas Sims. The team also acquired starting pitcher James Paxton and catcher Danny Jansen.
The Red Sox have a 56-49 record entering Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners, which puts them one game out of the final wild-card spot in the American League. Boston hasn't made the playoffs in the previous two seasons, so the team is hoping its moves at the trade deadline will bolster its chances of returning to the postseason this year.
By holding onto Anthony the Red Sox also set themselves up with a bright future, as he appears to be a potential difference-maker who can lead the team back to prominence.
