
Reyes Moronta Dies at 31; Pitcher Played for Giants, Dodgers, D-Backs, Angels in MLB
Former MLB relief pitcher Reyes Moronta died Sunday as the result of a traffic accident at the age of 31 in his native Dominican Republic, according to ESPN.com.
Mexican League team Bravos de León, for whom he played earlier this season, and the league's official X account mourned Moronta's death on social media:
Moronta made his MLB debut with the San Francisco Giants in 2017 and went on to play for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels. In 177 career appearances, he had a 3.05 ERA and 202 strikeouts.
The right-hander's best season came in 2018, when he struck out 79 batters over 65 innings and posted a 2.49 ERA. His 1.1 WAR ranked third among Giants relievers, per FanGraphs.
Moronta's last MLB appearance came with the Angels on May 24, 2023. He allowed two walks and one earned run in 0.2 innings.
