Tom Pidcock Comes Back from Flat Tire to Repeat as Mountain Bike Gold Medalist
3 of 4
Great Britain's Tom Pidcock broke the hearts of the French fans at the mountain biking venue.
The 2020 Summer Olympics gold medalist rebounded from a tire puncture in the middle of the men's mountain bike cross-country race to beat France's Victor Koretzky in the eight-lap race.
Pidcock suffered the puncture at the end of Lap 3. He was 40 seconds behind Koretzky at one point of Lap 5.
Pidcock methodically worked his way back through the field and rejoined his French foe on Lap 7.
The 24-year-old then sped away from Koretzky on the final lap to claim his second-ever gold medal.
Koretzky, who was in the leading pack for a majority of the race, finished nine-hundredths of a second behind Pidcock to settle for the silver medal.
