MLB Trade Rumors: Mets 'Going For It' at 2024 Deadline, Rival GM Says
The New York Mets have the playoffs in their sights, and that will surely impact their strategy ahead of Tuesday's MLB trade deadline.
"They're going for it," a rival general manager said of the Mets' trade deadline plans, per Andy Martino of SNY.
Martino noted that "going for it" could mean adding multiple relief pitchers or perhaps being more aggressive.

While New York is 10 games behind the first-place Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East, it currently occupies the second wild-card position in the NL. The Mets are just a half-game behind the Atlanta Braves for the first wild-card spot and hold a half-game edge on the San Diego Padres.
New York is also just one game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals, so playoff qualification is far from a sure thing.
That the Mets are even in a position to be buyers ahead of the deadline is something of a shock after they started 22-33 and appeared well on their way to a lost season. There were even rumors about the team shopping star slugger Pete Alonso when things were looking more dire.
However, they have completely turned things around with a 32-15 record in their last 47 contests and enter Friday's contest against the Braves on a four-game winning streak.
The last time New York advanced beyond the Wild Card round was the 2015 campaign, but a successful trade deadline could set it up for a deeper October run this year.
