Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Rumors: Rivals 'Acknowledge' Trade at 2024 Deadline Is Unlikely
One of the biggest names to watch could be staying put at the MLB trade deadline next week.
Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, teams around the majors "acknowledge" that a trade involving Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is "unlikely."
"Teams starving for offense long for Toronto to make Guerrero available -- and are hopeful that the Blue Jays' public-facing attitude toward any deal is simply a negotiating tactic to drive up the return. (They also acknowledge this is unlikely)," Passan wrote.

Guerrero has been the center of trade rumors for most of the summer due to the disconnect between him and the Blue Jays about a new contract. The 25-year-old is playing on a one-year, $19.9 million deal this year, but is seeking a long-term extension to remain in Toronto.
As of last week, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported the two sides were "not particularly close to getting a deal done," which led many to believe he could be moved.
Earlier in July, Guerrero expressed his interest in staying in Toronto while also recognizing that the team will do what is best for it in the long run.
"Man, I don't want to leave. I want to stay here all my life," Guerrero said, per TSN's Scott Mitchell. "But this is business."
In his sixth MLB campaign, Guerrero has 18 homers, 62 RBI and a .296 batting average amid a 46-56 season from the Blue Jays.
Toronto's hopes of a postseason berth are likely over at this point, but keeping Guerrero around after the deadline could help the Blue Jays build toward long-term success.
