MLB Trade Rumors: Latest Reports Before 2024 All-Star Game
The MLB All-Star Game is a celebration of baseball's top stars at the midway point of the season and some of those same players will find their names in the headlines as potential trade bait for teams looking for that one last piece of the puzzle to make a legitimate run at the World Series.
Tarik Skubal has been one of, if not the best, pitchers in the league but even his name is not spared as teams check in on the American League Cy Young frontrunner.
Garrett Crochet is another fastball slinger that has made headlines for his dominance on the mound for the Chicago White Sox, but is the subject of considerable buzz, as is Marlins star Jazz Chisholm.
What is the latest on those three stars ahead of Tuesday's All-Star extravaganza?
Find out with this collection of rumors from top baseball insiders.
Tarik Skubal Not Expected to Move...
1 of 3
Tarik Skabul has been among the most dominant pitchers thus far in the 2024 season, for a Detroit Tigers team that is anything but.
At just under .500, with playoff prospects that are anything but promising, it makes sense that the Tigers are a potential trade partner for contenders looking for a pitcher like Skabul to put them over the top in pursuit of a championship.
Skabul is not likely to be moved, however, reported USA Today's Bob Nightingale. "Enough with the silly Tarik Skubal trade rumors. The Detroit Tigers are not trading him," he wrote.
The ninth-round pick in 2018 enters the All-Star break with a 2.41 ERA, a 10-3 record, 140 strikeouts, and a 0.88 WHIP.
He is a favorite to win the AL Cy Young Award and one of the lone bright spots for a Tigers team that still feels like a handful of pieces away from legitimately contending.
Still, the Tigers should not feel pressured or inclined to move him.
He is a foundational piece of the team's future and if he can keep up his furious start to the season, should bring the Cy Young back to the Motor City for the first time since Max Scherzer earned the most coveted award in pitching in 2013.
...but Garrett Crochet Is

Nightingale also reported that "The San Diego Padres recently made an offer for Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet, but it was quickly dismissed. While rival GMs are uncertain now whether Crochet will be dealt, the White Sox still fully intend to move him."
Crochet has a history of injuries, some as late as last year to his shoulders, and has already endured Tommy John Surgery back in 2022. Still, he is an effective fastball pitcher who currently ranks in the top two percent of MLB with a 35.2 strike percentage.
Some of his career-best pitching is wasted for a bad Chicago White Sox team. His record currently stands at a pedestrian 6-6 through the first half of the season. With the organization in desperate need of a rebuild, trading an asset like Crochet and getting what it can in return makes the most sense.
Teams in need of pitching, like the Padres or the Baltimore Orioles, will sniff around and may be willing to offer a package of young prospects in hopes of replenishing the empty cupboard that is Chicago's farm system.
It would behoove the organization to accept the best package possible. Otherwise, the result is a bad team, with a great pitcher, whose best outings will be wasted in a scenario that is beneficial for no one.
Plenty of Interest in Jazz Chisholm Jr.
3 of 3
Jazz Chisholm is one of the most electric players in the game today but his future with the Miami Marlins appears to be nonexistent.
Nightingale reported that the Seattle Mariners are the favorites to land the second baseman/centerfielder and the Kansas City Royals are also interested. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported the New York Yankees have an interest in the former All-Star.
Chisholm is an excellent base runner but has struggled at the plate since his breakout season in 2022. This season, he has accumulated 88 hits, 12 home runs, and 18 stolen bases for a Miami Marlins team that is tough but will not be contending in any shape or form this season as the notoriously stingy team looks at another roster makeover.
Chisholm is a strong defender and as teams look toward the second-half of the season and what they will need to win in their prospective leagues, that becomes more significant. The Yankees, Royals, and Mariners are all in an American League that features explosive offenses, courtesy of young bats.
Having a player that can run down a ball in the outfield and potentially make a run-saving play is what they covet.
If Chisholm can rediscover consistency at the plate, even better.
Still, the prospects of the flashy young star playing for the Yankees seems like a mismatch.
One team he will not be playing for? The NL-leading Phillies, as Nightingale added in his report, do not have any interest in their division rival.
