Ranking Every Prospect in the 2024 MLB Futures Game

Joel ReuterJul 13, 2024

The 2024 Futures Game will give baseball fans a chance to see some of the game's top prospects going head-to-head on a big league stage, and it is always one of the most underrated parts of MLB's All-Star festivities.

This year's rosters include several top 2023 draft picks, including No. 2 overall selection Dylan Crews who is swinging it well while quickly climbing the ladder in the Washington Nationals farm system.

Ahead, we've ranked each of the 49 prospects set to participate in this year's Futures Game, with their position in the rankings based not only on their on-field production this season, but also their long-term potential and future upside. Essentially, the same criteria used when putting together a leaguewide Top 100 prospect list.

Note: OF Roman Anthony (BOS), C Moises Ballesteros (CHC), 3B Brady House (WAS) and 1B Tre' Morgan (TB) are only participating in the Skills Showcase, so they were not included in our Futures Game prospect rankings.

OF James Wood (WAS) and IF Brooks Lee (MIN) were promoted to the majors and removed from the rosters, while OF Owen Caissie (CHC) is unavailable due to injury, so they were also not included in the rankings.

Nos. 49-46

1 of 10
Drake Baldwin
Drake Baldwin

49. LHP Brock Selvidge, New York Yankees (Age: 21)

A third-round pick who signed an above-slot $1.5 million bonus in 2021, Selvidge has developed into one of the top arms in the Yankees system. He has a 4.25 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 84.2 innings as one of the younger pitchers at the Double-A level.

48. C Drake Baldwin, Atlanta Braves (Age: 23)

Baldwin posted an .845 OPS with 26 doubles, 16 home runs and 61 RBI in 109 games across three levels last year to emerge as one of the best bats in a pitching-heavy Atlanta farm system. He is hitting .265/.357/.401 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI across 76 games in the upper levels of the minors this season.

47. RHP A.J. Blubaugh, Houston Astros (Age: 24)

The Astros have a knack for finding late-round pitching gems in the MLB draft, and Blubaugh could be the next success story as a seventh-round selection in 2022. The UW-Milwaukee product broke out last season with a 4.41 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 100 innings, and he is knocking on the MLB door with a 3.91 ERA in 71.1 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land.

46. 2B Jeral Perez, Los Angeles Dodgers (Age: 19)

Signed for a modest $397,500 bonus during the 2022 international free agency window, Perez is enjoying a breakout performance in his first full season at the Single-A level. He is batting .277/.394/.441 with 15 doubles, nine home runs and 37 RBI in 67 games, and his limited defensive profile means his bat will have to carry his value.

Nos. 45-41

2 of 10
Gavin Cross
Gavin Cross

45. OF Gavin Cross, Kansas City Royals (Age: 23)

After going No. 9 overall in the 2022 draft and posting a 1.070 OPS over 135 plate appearances in his pro debut, Cross had an ugly 2023 season, hitting just .203/.298/.378 with a 27.8 percent strikeout rate. He is off to a much better start this year at Double-A with an .817 OPS, 25 extra-base hits and 18 steals in 70 games.

44. RHP Fernando Perez, Toronto Blue Jays (Age: 20)

Perez is a unique prospect in that his profile is built on command and pitchability rather than pure stuff, and after impressing in the Dominican Summer League and in rookie ball last year, he has continued to produce strong results at Single-A Dunedin. The 6'3", 170-pound right-hander has a 3.48 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 81 strikeouts in 75 innings, despite sitting in the low 90s with his fastball.

43. 2B Hao-Yu Lee, Detroit Tigers (Age: 21)

The Tigers acquired Lee in the deal that sent Michael Lorenzen to the Phillies at the 2023 deadline, and he has shown an advanced hit tool throughout his pro career. The 5'10", 190-pound second baseman is hitting .296/.365/.505 with 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 49 RBI in 73 games at Double-A, and an uptick in extra-base pop has raised his prospect profile.

42. RHP Winston Santos, Texas Rangers (Age: 22)

An undersized 6'0", 160-pound starter, Santos is shaping up to be a great diamond in the rough for the Rangers after he signed for just $10,000 in 2019. With a 60-grade fastball, two quality breaking pitches and solid overall command he has the potential to stick as a starter. In 72 innings of work between High-A and Double-A he has a 3.13 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 93-to-21 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

41. SS Cooper Pratt, Milwaukee Brewers (Age: 19)

An underrated member of a deep high school shortstop class in the 2023 draft, Pratt ended up going in the sixth round and signing a $1.35 million bonus that was roughly four times the slot value. He has solid tools across the board with a chance to stick at shortstop, and he is batting .291/.388/.378 with 14 extra-base hits and 20 steals in 64 games at Single-A.

Nos. 40-36

3 of 10
Emiliano Teodo
Emiliano Teodo

40. RHP Ben Kudrna, Kansas City Royals (Age: 21)

The Royals drafted Kudrna out of their own backyard after he won 2021 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year honors during his senior year at Blue Valley Southwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas. The 6'3" right-hander has a 3.20 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 66 strikeouts in 64.2 innings at High-A and has emerged as the club's top pitching prospect.

39. C Thayron Liranzo, Los Angeles Dodgers (Age: 21)

Signed for just $30,000 in 2021, Liranzo exploded onto the prospect scene last season when he hit .273/.400/.562 with 24 doubles, 24 home runs and 70 RBI in 94 games at Single-A. He has struggled a bit this spring making the jump to High-A Great Lakes, hitting .221/.351/.367 in 288 plate appearances, but his plus raw power and ability to work a walk still give him a high offensive ceiling.

38. 2B Termarr Johnson, Pittsburgh Pirates (Age: 20)

Lauded as one of the best pure hitters to come out of the high school ranks in years when he was taken No. 4 overall in the 2022 draft, Johnson is still working to turn potential into production. He is hitting .244/.394/.394 with 23 extra-base hits and 14 steals in 79 games at High-A Greensboro, and after drawing 101 walks a year ago his on-base ability continues to be his most valuable offensive tool.

37. LHP Robby Snelling, San Diego Padres (Age: 20)

Snelling was rapidly climbing Top 100 prospect lists last season when he went 11-3 with a 1.82 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 118 strikeouts in 103.2 innings across three levels in his pro debut, closing out the year as a teenager in Double-A. The 6'3", 210-pound southpaw has not enjoyed the same success this year with a 6.14 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and a .305 opponents' batting average in 70.1 innings at Double-A, but his ceiling remains extremely high.

36. RHP Emiliano Teodo, Texas Rangers (Age: 23)

Teodo won Reliever of the Year honors in the 2023 Arizona Fall League, but the Rangers have continued developing him as a starter this season and the results have been extremely impressive. He has a 1.71 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 89 strikeouts in 68.1 innings over 14 starts at Double-A, and proving he can handle a starter's workload with a 6'1", 165-pound frame will be an important step in his development.

Deyvison De Los Santos
Deyvison De Los Santos

35. OF Chandler Simpson, Tampa Bay Rays (Age: 23)

Simpson leads all minor leaguers with 62 stolen bases in 69 games between High-A and Double-A, and with a .358 average and .410 on-base percentage he has given himself plenty of opportunities to run wild. The 2022 second-round pick had 94 steals in 109 attempts between Single-A and High-A last year.

34. OF Druw Jones, Arizona Diamondbacks (Age: 20)

The son of longtime MLB star Andruw Jones and arguably the most hyped prospect in the 2022 draft, Jones played just 29 games over his first two professional seasons while battling numerous injuries. The early hype has faded, but he is quietly hitting .275/.391/.414 with 21 extra-base hits in 70 games at Single-A as he looks to get his development back on track.

33. 3B Cam Collier, Cincinnati Reds (Age: 19)

Expected to be a top 2023 draft pick, Collier reclassified, finished high school early, enrolled at JUCO powerhouse Chipola College and went No. 8 overall in the 2022 draft. He has shown flashes of an elite hit tool and budding raw power early in his pro career, and he is hitting .231/.309/.405 with 12 doubles, 13 home runs and 48 RBI in 78 games at High-A this year still shy of his 20th birthday.

32. 3B Deyvison De Los Santos, Arizona Diamondbacks (Age: 21)

The D-backs briefly lost De Los Santos in the Rule 5 draft, but he was returned after failing to make the Cleveland Guardians roster on Opening Day. The right-handed slugger has laid waste to the upper levels of the minors this season, hitting .331/.380/.650 with 27 home runs and 82 RBI in 82 games between Double-A and Triple-A.

31. OF Jaison Chourio, Cleveland Guardians (Age: 19)

Chourio does not have the same five-tool upside as his older brother Jackson Chourio who is a rising star for the Milwaukee Brewers, but he has developed into a top prospect in his own right. With a 60-grade hit tool, good speed and a glove that should stick in center field, he is hitting .272/.394/.394 with 69 hits and 55 walks in 71 games at Single-A.

Nos. 30-26

5 of 10
Spencer Jones
Spencer Jones

30. RHP Luis Morales, Oakland Athletics (Age: 21)

Morales signed for $3 million as the top pitching prospect in the 2023 international class after defecting from Cuba, and he has quickly emerged as the top pitching prospect in the Oakland system. The 6'3", 190-pound right-hander has a four-pitch mix that includes an upper 90s fastball, and he has a 4.12 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 43.2 innings at High-A.

29. 1B Ralphy Velazquez, Cleveland Guardians (Age: 19)

Drafted No. 23 overall in 2023 as a catcher, Velazquez has since moved to first base in an effort to maximize his 55-hit, 55-power offensive profile. The imposing 6'3", 215-pound slugger is hitting .261/.371/.441 with 20 doubles, nine home runs, 46 RBI in 71 games at Single-A.

28. 2B James Triantos, Chicago Cubs (Age: 21)

Triantos hit .417/.495/.679 with 11 extra-base hits over 99 plate appearances in the Arizona Fall League last year, and he has continued to impress at the plate this spring with a .301/.341/.448 line that includes 27 extra-base hits and 30 steals in 75 games at Double-A. The question is where he fits best defensively.

27. OF Spencer Jones, New York Yankees (Age: 23)

A towering 6'6", 235-pound outfielder who has risen to the top of the Yankees farm system since going No. 25 overall in the 2022 draft, Jones will need to cut down his strikeout rate to realize his immense potential. He is hitting .237/.317/.403 with 13 doubles, 10 home runs and 46 RBI in 73 games at Double-A, but he has whiffed 124 times for a 37.1 percent strikeout rate.

26. 2B Luke Keaschall, Minnesota Twins (Age: 21)

Keaschall has been one of the breakout prospects of the 2024 season, hitting .327/.438/.506 with 21 doubles, 11 home runs, 38 RBI and 19 steals in 84 games between High-A and Double-A. He has played second base, third base and center field, and he might profile best as an offensive-minded super-utility player, but he could also hit his way into an everyday role.

Nos. 25-21

6 of 10
Brandon Sproat
Brandon Sproat

25. RHP Bubba Chandler, Pittsburgh Pirates (Age: 21)

A two-sport star in high school who was committed to play football at Clemson, Chandler has made steady progress since turning his full attention to pitching, and he could be the next high-ceiling arm to join the Pittsburgh rotation. In 63.2 innings at Double-A, he has a 3.53 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 63.2 innings.

24. RHP Brandon Sproat, New York Mets (Age: 23)

After racking up 134 strikeouts in 106.1 innings as a senior at the University of Florida, Sproat was a second round pick in last year's draft, and he is quickly emerging as a Top 100 prospect for the Mets. With an elite fastball-changeup combo, he has a 1.71 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 85 strikeouts in 73.2 innings between High-A and Double-A.

23. LHP Quinn Mathews, St. Louis Cardinals (Age: 23)

Mathews grabbed headlines last spring when he threw 156 pitches in his Super Regional start for Stanford, and he is shaping up to be an absolute steal as a fourth-round pick. The 6'5" southpaw has a 2.22 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 120 strikeouts in 85 innings, and he was recently promoted to Double-A where his pitchability will be put to the test.

22. RHP Caden Dana, Los Angeles Angels (Age: 20)

Dana has a chance to be the best homegrown pitcher to come out of the Angels system since Jered Weaver if everything clicks. The 6'4", 215-pound right-hander has a 2.99 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 97 strikeouts in 90.1 innings at Double-A, and he does not turn 21 years old until December.

21. SS Sebastian Walcott, Texas Rangers (Age: 18)

With a highly projectable 6'4", 190-pound frame, tremendous raw power and the defensive tools to stick at shortstop, Walcott is one of the most promising teenage prospects in the sport. One of the youngest players in the High-A South Atlantic League, he is holding his own with a .235/.333/.401 line and 27 extra-base hits in 76 games.

Nos. 20-16

7 of 10
Bryce Eldridge
Bryce Eldridge

20. 1B Bryce Eldridge, San Francisco Giants (Age: 19)

The best two-way prospect in the 2023 draft, Eldridge has turned his full attention to hitting in pro ball. The 6'7", 223-pound first baseman has huge raw power, and a compact stroke considering his size. He is hitting .274/.348/.478 with 17 doubles, 11 home runs and 55 RBI in 63 games between Single-A and High-A.

19. LHP Thomas White, Miami Marlins (Age: 19)

The Marlins gave White an above-slot, $4.1 million bonus as the No. 35 overall pick in the 2023 draft and walked away with the two best high school pitchers in the class after taking Noble Meyer in the first round. The 6'5", 210-pound southpaw has a 3.10 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 61 innings, though he has been hittable at times.

18. RHP Noble Meyer, Miami Marlins (Age: 19)

The No. 10 overall pick in last year's draft and the consensus top high school pitcher in the 2023 class, Meyer has a 3.22 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 61 strikeouts in 50.1 innings in his first full pro season. His 6'5", 185-pound frame offers further projection, but he already has an electric fastball-slider combination.

17. SS Aidan Miller, Philadelphia Phillies (Age: 20)

Miller hit well over 20 games in his pro debut last season after going No. 27 overall in the 2023 draft, and he is still working to tap into his significant raw power. He hit .275/.401/.483 with 21 extra-base hits in 39 games at Single-A to earn a quick promotion, but he has slumped to a .188 average and .598 OPS in 21 games since joining the High-A roster.

16. SS Cole Young, Seattle Mariners (Age: 20)

Young hit .277/.399/.449 with 34 doubles, nine triples, 11 home runs, 62 RBI and 22 steals in 126 games between Single-A and High-A last year, and he remains a no-doubt shortstop defensively. He has made the jump to Double-A this season and has a .743 OPS with 24 extra-base hits and 14 steals as he gets acquainted with a higher caliber of pitching.

Nos. 15-11

8 of 10
Rhett Lowder
Rhett Lowder

15. C Harry Ford, Seattle Mariners (Age: 21)

A unique athlete for the catcher position, Ford is hitting .253/.376/.381 with 24 extra-base hits and 21 steals in 27 attempts at Double-A Arkansas. He profiles as a potential five-tool catcher in the mold of Craig Biggio early in his career, and he has a 16.9 percent walk rate and .407 on-base percentage over four pro seasons.

14. RHP Rhett Lowder, Cincinnati Reds (Age: 22)

The second pitcher taken in the 2023 draft after Paul Skenes, Lowder went No. 7 overall to the Reds after going 15-0 with a 1.87 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 120.1 innings during his junior year at Wake Forest. He dominated High-A over five starts to open the year, but has scuffled a bit making the leap to Double-A.

13. 3B Matt Shaw, Chicago Cubs (Age: 22)

One of the best pure hitters in the 2023 draft class and a prospect expected to move quickly through the minors, Shaw reached Double-A in his pro debut and he is hitting .247/.352/.416 with 10 home runs, 38 RBI and 20 steals in 71 games there to begin the 2024 season. He has seen time at second base, shortstop and third base, with the hot corner his clearest path to playing time in the majors.

12. OF Justin Crawford, Philadelphia Phillies (Age: 20)

Justin is the son of four-time All-Star Carl Crawford, and he shares some of his dad's tools with good wheels and a terrific glove in the outfield. The 2022 first-round pick is hitting .301/.349/.438 with 24 extra-base hits and 27 steals in 70 games at High-A, and he is the top position player in the Philadelphia system.

11. C Kyle Teel, Boston Red Sox (Age: 22)

The Red Sox have found their catcher of the future in Teel, who is hitting .298/.384/.455 with 16 doubles, eight home runs and 49 RBI in 65 games at Double-A in his first full professional season. It's not out of the question to think he could compete for the starting catcher job in 2025, despite being a 2023 draft pick.

(Photo by George Kubas/Diamond Images via Getty Images)

10. SS Colson Montgomery, Chicago White Sox (Age: 22)

Montgomery entered the season as one of the top prospects in baseball after hitting .287/.456/.84 with 25 extra-base hits in 64 games while reaching Double-A for the first time. The 6'3", 225-pound infielder still has All-Star potential, but he has struggled with the jump to Triple-A, hitting .212/.328/.373 with a 29.2 percent strikeout rate.

9. C Ethan Salas, San Diego Padres (Age: 18)

The Padres signed Salas for $5.6 million in January 2023 and sent him straight to Single-A for his pro debut a few days before his 17th birthday. He hit .248/.331/.421 with 13 doubles, nine home runs and 41 RBI in 66 games, closing out the year at Double-A, but he has struggled to get going this year. In 69 games at High-A Fort Wayne, he is hitting .197/.300/.280 with 17 extra-base hits and 69 strikeouts.

8. RHP Chase Dollander, Colorado Rockies (Age: 22)

A candidate to go No. 1 overall in the 2023 draft before an inconsistent junior season, Dollander is quickly shaping up to be the best pitching prospect the Rockies have had in years. The 6'2", 200-pound right-hander has a 2.83 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 111 strikeouts in 70 innings at High-A Spokane.

7. OF Max Clark, Detroit Tigers (Age: 19)

A tooled-up prep prospect out of the Indiana high school ranks, Clark went No. 3 overall in the 2023 draft and immediately became one of the top prospects in a deep Detroit farm system. He is hitting .279/.381/.404 with 19 extra-base hits, 25 steals and a strong 14.5 percent walk rate in 71 games at Single-A.

6. RHP Tink Hence, St. Louis Cardinals (Age: 21)

Hence is at the Futures Game for the second year in a row, and he has solidified his standing as one of the elite pitching prospects in the game with a strong start to the year at Double-A. The 6'1", 195-pound right-hander has a 3.29 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 73-to-17 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 54.2 innings at Double-A, but he still needs to prove he can handle a full season's workload.

5. 1B Xavier Isaac, Tampa Bay Rays (Age: 20)

High school prospects with first-base-only defensive profiles tend to be Day 2 prospects in the MLB draft, so more than a few eyebrows were raised when the Rays took Isaac with the No. 29 overall pick in 2022. Never doubt the Rays. He is hitting .286/.375/.543 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI in 64 games at High-A and looks like one of the best power hitters in the minors right now.

4. C/1B Samuel Basallo, Baltimore Orioles (Age: 19)

Basallo was arguably the biggest breakout prospect of the 2023 season, hitting .313/.402/.551 with 26 doubles, 20 home runs and 86 RBI in 114 games over three minor league levels to fly up Top 100 lists. He has a .787 OPS with 14 doubles, 12 home runs and 38 RBI in 75 games at Double-A this year and looks like the next impact bat to emerge from the Baltimore system.

3. LHP Noah Schultz, Chicago White Sox (Age: 20)

A towering 6'9", 220-pound left-hander from the Illinois high school ranks, Schultz touches 97 mph with his fastball and backs it with arguably the best slider of any pitching prospect. He has a 3.13 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 75 strikeouts in 54.2 innings between High-A and Double-A this year, and he is quickly emerging as one of baseball's best pitching prospects.

2. SS Marcelo Mayer, Boston Red Sox (Age: 21)

Slowed by a shoulder injury for much of last season before he was eventually shut down in August, Mayer has reinforced his top prospect status by hitting .301/.367/.470 with 26 doubles, seven home runs, 36 RBI and 13 steals in 71 games at Double-A. Given the issues the Red Sox have had finding production from the middle infield spots, it's not out of the question to think he could debut before 2024 is over.

1. OF Dylan Crews, Washington Nationals (Age: 22)

Crews hit .426/.567/.713 with 18 home runs and 70 RBI last spring at LSU to win 2023 Golden Spikes honors, and while his college teammate Paul Skenes ended up beating him to the majors, he is not far behind. In 71 games between Double-A and Triple-A, he is hitting .267/.331/.433 with 27 extra-base hits and 20 steals, and if the Nationals sell off some veteran pieces at the deadline it could open the door for him to debut down the stretch.
