  • Kris Statlander vs. Willow Nightingale
  • PAC vs. Bryan Danielson
  • Jeff Jarrett vs. Wild Card

Let's take a look at everything that happened on Wednesday's Dynamite.

PAC vs. Bryan Danielson

The semifinals for the Owen Hart tournament got going this week when PAC took on Bryan Danielson in the first match of the night. These two haven't had a singles match in roughly 15 years, so the crowd at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago was excited.

They worked a slow, methodical pace at first. They were feeling each other out and trying not to rush, but that didn't last forever. They eventually started trading stiff strikes as they upped the intensity.

PAC had the upper hand as they went to a break, but The American Dragon began building up a head of steam when we returned.

They started a bit slower than expected but still managed to make this one of the better TV matches you will see all week.

Both men traded submissions and near-falls before Danielson finally got the pin.

Result: Danielson defeated PAC

Grade: A-

Notable Moments and Observations

  • MJF told Garcia he would be in his corner for his title match during a backstage interview.
  • It takes two special talents to make an extended wristlock entertaining.
  • PAC's springboard moonsault looked great.

Kris Statlander vs. Willow Nightingale

Dynamite.

Mark Briscoe was in the ring to talk about Forbidden Door and coming up short in the TNT title match.

He revealed he would be on Team AEW for Blood and Guts before Jack Perry laid him out with the TNT title. Kyle O'Reilly tried to make the save, but Kazuchika Okada hit him with a Rainmaker.

The Acclaimed ran down to send The Elite packing.

Next up was Statlander making her way out to take on Nightingale in an Owen Hart Tournament semifinal.

Statlander ran up the ramp, and they started brawling immediately. Willow hit a pounce that sent her rival rolling down the ramp.

This has quickly turned into a bitter rivalry, and they did a great job matching the emotion with their physicality. The crowd was firmly in Nightingale's corner and popped every time she came close to winning.

In a bit of a surprising outcome, Nightingale was able to defeat Statlander with a pinning combination to advance to the finals.

Result: Nightingale defeated Statlander

Grade: B+

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Willow gave a great promo backstage about her catchphrase.
  • Toni Storm and Mariah May had a funny segment.
  • Willow's cannonball was a nice spot.

Britt Baker Returns

Britt Baker came out to talk about what it took for her to return from injuries.

She revealed she had a TIA and ended up in the hospital. She talked about the recovery process and the fear of rejection when she returned at the PPV. She said the fans welcomed her back and she is thankful.

As Baker spoke about Mercedes Moné, she arrived at the arena and went to the ring for her championship celebration. DMD was still in the ring as people set up balloons for the double champion.

Moné looked disgusted when the crowd chanted DMD instead of CEO. They traded some tense words and insults, but the segment ended without any violence. While nothing is official, it looks like it will be Moné vs. Baker at All In.

This was a well-done segment to establish Baker as the babyface in this feud and bring her back into the fold.

Grade: B

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Baker hugging interviewer Tony Schiavone was a nice moment.
  • DMD calling out Moné for adding chants to her entrance music was hilarious.

Samoa Joe, Hook and Katsuyori Shibata vs. Cage of Agony

4 of 7
Dynamite.
Dynamite.

Chris Jericho had Taz kicked out of the arena before he joined the commentary team to watch Samoa Joe, Hook and Katsuyori Shibata take on Cage of Agony.

Toa Liona and Joe started with a nice exchange of strikes to get things going. Bishop Kaun was dominating Hook as the show went to a break. Jericho was clearly happy to see his former ally taking damage.

Both of these trios are full of big dudes who like to fight, so this was a hard-fought match even if it was somewhat simple in its execution.

Nobody expected Joe's team to lose just days after beating Jericho's side at Forbidden Door, so it was no surprise to see them win with simultaneous chokeholds on all three opponents.

Big Bill and Bryan Keith attacked them with chairs as Jericho joined in using the FTW title as a weapon.

Result: Joe, Hook and Shibata defeated Cage of Agony

Grade: B-

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Cage of Agony needs new entrance music and a renewed push.
  • Jericho took this gimmick from being kind of funny to being forced in record time. Even he doesn't sound so sure of what he is saying half the time.
  • Hook and Kaun had some trouble transitioning into the final submission.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Adam Page

5 of 7
Dynamite.
Dynamite.

Jarrett's crew came out with him but let him go it alone as he stepped into the ring for his first-round match against a wild-card entry, who turned out to be none other than "Hangman" Adam Page.

The Cowboy got a big pop when his name appeared on the big screen, but Double J didn't look so happy.

They locked up and Hangman shoved Jarrett to the mat with a scowl on his face. He looked more aggressive than usual as he took control and began unloading on the veteran. Page slammed his head into the steps several times and dropped him onto the steel with a DDT during the break.

This bout was structured perfectly because it did two things at once: It brought back Hangman as a vicious heel while building sympathy for Jarrett after his emotional promo about being friends with Owen touched so many fans. When he locked Page in a Sharpshooter, the crowd exploded in cheers.

Double J tapped into something and brought out some of the best work he has done in AEW for this match, but a Buckshot Lariat and Deadeye put him down for the three-count.

Result: Page defeated Jarrett

Grade: B+

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Page had new entrance music. It sounded more suited to a heel than his old song.
  • Some of the punches they were throwing looked pretty stiff.
  • The apron powerbomb looked brutal.
  • Hangman did a great job looking annoyed at the chants for Swerve Strickland.

Will Ospreay vs. Daniel Garcia (International Championship)

6 of 7
Dynamite.
Dynamite.

This week's main event saw Garcia challenge Ospreay for the International Championship.

MJF stood in Garcia's corner, while Ospreay was alone following his request to leave The Don Callis Family earlier in the show.

The Aerial Assassin no-sold some of Garcia's offense to show he was operating at 100 percent despite having a hard-fought match against Swerve Strickland on Sunday.

MJF spent most of the bout circling the ring and cheering on Garcia with words of encouragement, which seemed to help the challenger find his second wind.

This was a fast-paced match that showed why both men are special talents for different reasons. They went into overtime and had several close two-counts before we came to the finish.

MJF tried to give Garcia his diamond ring, but he refused to use it.

After giving it back to MJF, Garcia turned around and was taken out with a Hidden Blade.

Result: Ospreay defeated Garcia

Grade: A-

Notable Moments and Observations

  • The backstage segment with Page and the Bucks made it look like Hangman may not be part of Blood and Guts after all.
  • The way Garcia used Ospreay's own counter to hit an improvised piledriver was unique.
  • Ospreay looks like he has to hold back when he does a springboard to avoid going over his opponent.
  • The way Garcia used his dance to anger Ospreay was hilarious.

The Final Word

Dynamite.

MJF did the thing everyone expected him to do and turned on Garcia with a kick below the belt. We all knew the babyface run wouldn't last forever, but it was a little surprising to see it end so quickly. He busted DG open with his ring and hit a piledriver from the middle rope.

Ospreay and several officials finally chased him away. MJF's heel turn was predictable but still done in a way that sets up an interesting match for All In between him and Garcia.

We also saw Baker and Mercedes enter into a feud that will culminate in a TBS title bout.

This episode didn't necessarily follow up on everything from Forbidden Door that needed to be addressed, but it was an above-average edition in other ways.

We didn't get a single squash match and every contest felt like it served a purpose. The return of Hangman against Double J was great, Danielson and PAC had an entertaining encounter, and Ospreay and Garcia stole the show in the main event.

However, the most surprising moment of the night was Nightingale defeating Statlander, who many saw as a favorite to win the Owen Hart tournament. Willow has a chance to become a two-time winner, but she will have to go through May or Hikaru Shida to do it.

This is one of those rare episodes when it felt like every segment was worth watching. Hopefully, this becomes a trend.
