Celtics Parade 2024: Latest Route, Date, Schedule, TV Info and More
Cue the duck boats.
The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 in Game 5 of the 2024 NBA Finals on Monday and clinched their 18th championship in franchise history. Now comes the party for the victors and the city they represent, and indications seem to be that the parade will be Friday.
Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reported the Celtics are going to party in Miami for a few days and noted the "parade is expected to be this Friday."
Per Matt Schooley of WBZ News, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu confirmed Tuesday morning that the parade will indeed take place Friday, starting at 11 a.m. ET in front of TD Garden.
The duck boat parade will then turn down Causeway Street, pass City Hall Plaza and the Boston Common on Tremont Street, and finally end on Boylston Street near the Hynes Convention Center.
There is also a heat advisory in the Boston area this week with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration placing New England in the "extreme" risk category.
When a press conference is held later in the day Tuesday, the city will share its preparations in relation to the unusually hot temperatures, according to Schooley.
Per Michael Silverman and Katie McInerney of the Boston Globe, the Celtics' latest championship parade is following the same blueprint as many prior Boston sports championship celebrations, as the duck boats figure to "begin their slow roll around 11 a.m., the usual start time for the dozen other parades Boston Duck Tours has held between February of 2002 and February 2019 for the Patriots (six), Red Sox (four), Bruins (one), and Celtics (one)."
It will surely be covered on local stations in Boston, as well as NBA TV on a national scale.
Boston earned this parade with a dominant run throughout the 2023-24 season and postseason.
It finished with the best record in the NBA at 64-18 and then didn't lose more than one game in any of its four playoff series. That included the 4-1 victory over the Mavericks in the Finals, which was punctuated with a 106-88 blowout on Monday.
Jayson Tatum led the way with 31 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds and two steals in the closeout game, while NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown notched 21 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals.
A defense that held the Mavericks to below 100 points in four of the five games was also dialed in from the start.
The end result was an NBA-best 18th championship and a parade to celebrate it.
