Cowboys Insider: CeeDee Lamb Contract Talks Likely Before Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons

Scott PolacekMay 29, 2024

The Dallas Cowboys were relatively quiet this offseason with potential long-term deals for quarterback Dak Prescott, pass-rusher Micah Parsons and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb looming, and the latter's negotiations reportedly could be an immediate focus.

ESPN's Todd Archer reported Wednesday that "the talks with Lamb could begin in earnest soon, with an eye on getting finalized in training camp."

Archer noted that the wide receiver's price tag may only increase if the Minnesota Vikings reach a deal with Justin Jefferson first, especially after Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions and A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles agreed to contracts that pay them an average annual value of $30 million and $32 million, respectively.

Lamb and Prescott are each entering the final year of their contract, while Parsons is signed through 2025 with the franchise tag available if needed in 2026.

As a result, Archer noted "of the Cowboys' big three, Parsons' deal is likeliest to be on the back burner" given the timing of the negotiations.

Lamb being a priority is anything but a surprise, as he is just 25 years old and one of the best wide receivers in the league. He was a First-Team All-Pro selection last season with an NFL-best 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

It was his third consecutive Pro Bowl campaign with more than 1,100 receiving yards and one that saw him post career-best marks in all three categories.

He has shown no signs of slowing down as his career progresses, and the Cowboys surely want to make sure he continues putting up monster numbers in their uniform. That will require a hefty contract, and it could come as early as training camp.

If it does, Dallas can shift its attention to Prescott and Parsons.
