Caitlin Clark Will 'Definitely' Be Ready to Play for Fever vs. Storm Amid Injury

Joseph ZuckerMay 22, 2024

Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark expects to suit up Wednesday night against the Seattle Storm.

The No. 1 overall pick briefly exited Indiana's 88-84 loss to the Connecticut Sun after rolling her left ankle.

"It's about what you'd expect when you turn it like that," she told reporters hours before tip-off against Seattle. "I feel like I'll definitely be ready to go and ready to play. Luckily I've dealt with some ankle injuries before so it's nothing really out of the ordinary."

Clark was bracing for a pick by Sun forward Brionna Jones when she stepped awkwardly. While visibly limping, she walked off the court under her own power, which allayed some of the initial fears about the injury.

After getting her ankle taped up, Clark came back and finished with 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting and five assists.

Considering she was deemed healthy enough to keep going against Connecticut, it stood to reason she'd play Wednesday night.

The Fever could, however, be proactive in managing her workload in situations like these. Forty games over five months is a grind, especially when a player only had about five weeks of rest before the WNBA season got underway. Clark's last game at Iowa was April 7 and the Fever had their opener on May 14.

Resting the 22-year-old or being extra cautious when she suffers a minor injury wouldn't be a bad idea for Indiana.

That doesn't appear to be on the table now as the team looks to earn its first win following an 0-4 start.
