Yankees' Clarke Schmidt Thinks He Tipped Pitch on HR by Mariners' Dylan Moore in Loss
The Seattle Mariners earned their second straight win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday, but Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt believes it was his mistake that cost the team.
Per ESPN, Schmidt said after Tuesday's 6-3 loss that he believes he tipped his pitch to Mariners shortstop Dylan Moore when he gave up a two-run homer in the third inning.
"Obviously tipping is a part of this game and it's a factor and it's always in the back of our heads and something that we're well aware of," Schmidt said.

Before facing Moore in the third, Schmidt gave up a one-out double to Jose Rojas. The right-handed hurler said he believes Rojas signaled Moore of his intention to throw a full-count cutter.
"[He] was definitely, probably relaying some signs there at second and obviously it paid off for them," Schmidt said of Rojas. "They got two runs on it. But I was able to make adjustments after we saw the video and just part of the game. Another factor in it."
The loss dropped Schmidt's record to 5-2 and ended his streak of three straight wins. The 28-year-old still has a respectable 2.59 ERA, a marked improvement from the 2023 season when he posted a 9-9 record with a 4.64 ERA in his first full year as a starter.
"Everybody has things that they do pitching that you might pattern in certain ways with the way you come set or whatever it may be," Schmidt said. "Maybe in the years past I had a different tip and now it's another tip. And so it's just constantly paying attention and making sure that you're staying on top of small things like that. Obviously, it can be the difference in a game. But for me, it's something that we've been aware of this year just through our outings, and we've made adjustments and we'll continue to make adjustments."
The Yankees will try to bounce back on Wednesday in the third matchup of the four-game series against the Mariners. New York is sending Nestor Cortes to the mound against Seattle starter Bryce Miller.
