NFL Rumors: Jamal Adams to Visit Ravens in Free Agency After Seahawks Release

Adam WellsMay 21, 2024

Two months after being released by the Seattle Seahawks, three-time Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams is going to meet with Mike Macdonald's former team in free agency.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Baltimore Ravens are hosting Adams for a visit on Tuesday.

Macdonald, who was hired as Seahawks head coach in January after spending two seasons as Ravens defensive coordinator, got rid of several players from the Pete Carroll regime early in the offseason.

Adams, Quandre Diggs and Will Dissly were all released on the same day to save the Seahawks $27.5 million in cap space.

Baltimore's roster took a huge hit this offseason with 15 players from the 2023 team leaving in free agency. Most of the losses came on the defensive side of the ball, including linebacker Patrick Queen, EDGE rusher Jadeveon Clowney, safety Geno Stone and cornerback Rock Ya-Sin.

The loss of Stone, who joined the AFC North rival Cincinnati Bengals, explains the Ravens' interest in Adams. Stone set career-highs in combined tackles (68), pass breakups (nine) and interceptions (seven) last season.

Baltimore still has Marcus Williams to start alongside Kyle Hamilton at safety next season, but Adams could provide insurance if he signs with the team. Williams has only appeared in 21 games over the past two seasons since signing with the Ravens in March 2022.

Another possibility the Ravens could consider is using Adams as a hybrid safety-linebacker. He played 208 snaps in the box last season, compared to 183 in the slot and 83 at safety.

Durability has been a problem for Adams throughout his career. The 28-year-old has missed at least four games in each of the past four seasons. He has only played 10 games over the previous two seasons, including one in 2022 due to a torn quad tendon.

Adams recorded 48 combined tackles and two pass breakups in nine starts for the Seahawks last season.
