Patriots' Jacoby Brissett Talks Mentoring Drake Maye, Recalls Learning from Tom Brady
As a rookie in 2016, quarterback Jacoby Brissett learned from New England Patriots great Tom Brady.
Now back with the Patriots, Brissett is taking on a mentoring role of his own with rookie quarterback Drake Maye. Per ESPN's Mike Reiss, Brissett had high praise for Maye, who was the No. 3 pick in the NFL draft.
"He has a lot of talent. He can make all the throws. He wants to learn football," Brissett said. "He wants to get better. That's what you want, in not only your quarterback, but anybody on the team.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"I'm excited to work with him. I remember when I was following Tom [Brady] around; anywhere I could learn, and he's already texting me about plays and 'how do I think about this' and cadence — all the little nuances of being in this position at this level."
Brissett spent last season with the Washington Commanders and threw for 224 passing yards and three touchdowns while playing behind Sam Howell. This offseason, he returned to New England on a one-year, $8 million deal.
Brissett, who is on his fifth team in five seasons, could possibly start the season under center as Maye eases into the position at the pro level. Brissett has previously talked about his excitement to have a camp battle with the young signal-caller.
Maye, who was drafted only behind Heisman winners Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, had 3,608 passing yards and 24 touchdowns in his final season at North Carolina after he picked up 4,321 yards and 38 touchdowns in 2022. Bleacher Report's Scouting Department considered him to be the No. 3 overall prospect and the top quarterback in this year's draft class.
New England is now far removed from the Brady era and is entering its first season under head coach Jerod Mayo, who took over after Bill Belichick departed. With a new quarter back of the future and a new coach leading the way, the Patriots are looking to form a second coming of one of the best dynasties in NFL history.
