Xander Schauffele Breaks PGA Championship Record with Opening-Round 62 at Valhalla
Xander Schauffele is off to a hot start at the PGA Championship.
The 30-year-old carded a nine-under 62 to begin the tournament on Thursday, marking a PGA Championship scoring record. His score also tied the all-time major scoring record for a single round.

Schauffele still has a long weekend ahead of him at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, but he set the tone early with his opening-round performance and seems to be on his way to a big showing.
Schauffele came out of the gates hot on Thursday to begin his historic round. He carded birdies on five of his first nine holes and added four more birdies down the stretch as he pieced together a masterful bogey-free round.
Schauffele also became the first golfer to shoot 62 in a major since he did so at the U.S. Open last year.
While the first round of the PGA Championship is still in progress, it seems Schauffele will have a comfortable lead heading into Round 2.
Schauffele is looking for his first career win at a major as well as his first PGA Tour win of the season. Schauffele has twice been a runner-up at a major (the Masters in 2019 and The Open Championship in 2018) but is still seeking out his first trip to the winner's circle.
Schauffele will continue chasing his first major victory on Friday when he tees off at 1:18 p.m. ET.
