NBA Combine 2024: List of Participants, Schedule and Players to Watch

May 15, 2024

The 2024 NBA Draft Combine has been taking place at Wintrust Arena in Chicago this week, and many of the top players in this year's class have been among the early standouts. It's a star-studded field of prospects, many of whom should be taken early in the draft, which is scheduled for June 26-27 in Brooklyn.

The Atlanta Hawks will have their pick of every player, as they landed the No. 1 overall pick in the draft lottery despite having only 3% odds of doing so. The Washington Wizards have the No. 2 selection, followed by the Houston Rockets at No. 3.

NBA teams are using the combine as an opportunity to scout the incoming talent. The event began Sunday and will run through the upcoming weekend. The full list of participants is available at NBA.com.

Coverage of the combine will continue Wednesday on ESPN2 from 1-5 p.m. ET. It will also be streamed live on the ESPN app.

Here's a look at several players to continue to keep an eye on during the draft combine.

Alex Sarr, C, Perth Wildcats

There's no consensus top prospect in this year's draft class, but the player who gets taken at No. 1 could be Alex Sarr, a 7-foot-1 center from France. He has played for the Perth Wildcats of Australia's National Basketball League, but he could soon be joining the Hawks.

Sarr measured in at 7-foot in shoes with a wingspan of 7-4 and a standing reach of 9-2. As B/R's Jonathan Wasserman noted, Sarr doesn't have the "smoothest delivery" on his jumpshot, but "shot-making diversity may be more compelling than basic catch-shoot stroke."

Because of his size and defensive ability, Sarr is an intriguing prospect to watch. He also has range that could continue to develop as enters the NBA and takes the next steps.

The combine hasn't always had the projected No. 1 pick in attendance, so it's been enjoyable to see Sarr working out alongside other players this week in Chicago.

Bronny James, PG, USC

Obviously, a lot of attention this week has been on Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James. The younger James didn't put up huge numbers during his first season at USC (an average of 4.8 points and 2.1 assists over 25 games), but he's an intriguing draft prospect, even though he measured in at 6-foot-1 (and not 6-foot-4) at the combine.

On Tuesday, James scored four points on 2-for-8 shooting in 19 minutes of scrimmage play at the draft combine. However, the 19-year-old guard was a standout a day earlier, impressing during the drills that took place on Monday, when he showed his 40.5-inch vertical.

"He put up strong numbers across the board with his leaping and foot speed, but it was his shooting that generated the most attention," wrote Wasserman, who noted that James made 19 of 25 3-pointers in the star drill.

James appears to be handling the spotlight well. It may not be long before he joins his father as a first-round NBA draft pick.

Zach Edey, C, Purdue

No player at this year's draft combine is bigger than Zach Edey. The former Purdue center led all prospects in height without shoes (7-foot-3 1/4), standing reach (9-foot-7 1/2) and wingspan (7-foot-10 1/2), and none of those measurements came as a surprise.

ESPN's Jonathan Givony reported that Edey has impressed in shooting drills and showcased his high potential in that area. It also seems the 22-year-old has boosted his draft stock.

"Edey has quite a few fans around the NBA at this point," Givony wrote, "and there are plenty of executives who say they have him ranked as a lottery pick, or even as a top-10 prospect because of how well he rates in their analytics models."

If Edey continues to fare well at the combine, he could solidify his standing. So he'll be an interesting player to continue to watch this week for that reason.
