Hawks GM Says No. 1 Pick Trade Hasn't Been Considered Yet After Draft Lottery Win

After landing the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA draft, the Atlanta Hawks are in no rush to hear trade offers for the coveted selection.

Speaking to reporters after Sunday's lottery, general manager Landry Fields told reporters moving the No. 1 pick isn't on the team's radar just yet:

According to The Athletic's Mike Vorkunov, "there was speculation among league sources contacted by The Athletic about whether Atlanta would keep [the pick] or trade it" after the Hawks were revealed as the lottery winners.

The Hawks entered the NBA draft lottery with just a three percent chance to land the No. 1 pick. However, luck was on Atlanta's side, as the franchise now has the chance to add a future star.

In stark contrast to last year, the 2024 draft class remains without a consensus No. 1 prospect. This year's group doesn't feature a generational talent like Victor Wembanyama, so there are plenty of directions the Hawks can go with the top pick.

ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo predicted in their latest mock draft that the Hawks will use the No. 1 pick to select talented big man Alex Sarr. The 19-year-old is ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the latest draft big board from Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman.

The Hawks are hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 36-46 campaign in which they lost in the play-in tournament, so Fields will certainly be trying to find the right player to pair with star guards Trae Young and Dejounte Murray.
