Video: Northwestern's Izzy Scane Sets NCAA Women's Lacrosse Record with 359th Goal
Welcome to the record books, Izzy Scane.
The Northwestern star broke the Division I women's lacrosse record with her 359th career goal during Sunday's 17-4 blowout victory over Denver in the NCAA tournament:
The Associated Press noted she surpassed Charlotte North's previous record of 358 goals. North played for Boston College and Duke during her career and notched that goal total in 87 games.
Sunday was Scane's 81st career game.
She did far more than set the record and finished with five goals and an assist in the win. The performance gives her 75 goals and 18 assists on the campaign, which is why she is a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award.
The Tewaaraton Award is given to the nation's best player, and Scane won it last season behind 99 goals and 35 assists.
Northwestern took home the national championship last season and is in an ideal position to repeat with its star goal-scorer leading the way. The Wildcats are the No. 1 seed in the tournament and advanced to Thursday's quarterfinals with Sunday's win.
They will face the No. 8 seed Penn, which defeated Richmond in the first round and Loyola Maryland in the second round.
But stopping Scane will be a much more difficult task than those first two wins for the challengers.
