Knicks' OG Anunoby Out for NBA Playoffs Game 4 vs. Pacers with Hamstring Injury
New York Knicks starter OG Anunoby will miss Sunday's Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers with left hamstring strain.
The Knicks designated Anunoby as out on the NBA's Saturday afternoon injury report.
Anunoby also missed the Knicks' Game 3 loss. He was averaging 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds through eight postseason games prior to the injury.
The news will be a blow to a shorthanded Knicks team already missing Bojan Bogdanović, Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson. Jalen Brunson is also playing through injury.
The Knicks lead the series 2-1. Game 4 tips off Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
A midseason trade acquisition from the Toronto Raptors, Anunoby averaged 14.1 points through 23 regular-season starts with the Knicks before upping his production in the playoffs.
Anunoby appeared to suffer the injury during the third quarter of Wednesday's Game 2, when he seemed to be in pain after a layup attempt in transition.
Prior to the injury, he had put up 28 points in just under 28 minutes of play, marking his most productive game of the playoffs so far.
Brunson, who was questionable to play before Game 3 due to a foot injury, is not listed on the Knicks' injury report. He recorded 26 points in Friday's loss.
The Knicks will lean on Brunson and Donte DiVincenzo to once more lead their shorthanded offense as they head into Game 4 without Anunoby.
New York may also have to come up with a longer-term game plan to succeed without Anunoby, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski said on Friday's NBA Countdown.
"Right now the expectation is that he's out for both of these games in Indiana, possibly beyond," Wojnarowski said.
Anunoby still traveled with the team for Games 3 and 4 in Indianapolis, head coach Tom Thibodeau said Friday (h/t SNY.)
"Your rehab is basically your game, so just lock into that, so get treatment three times a day and just keep working at that," Thibodeau told reporters Friday. "And that's where he is right now."
Precious Achiuwa slotted in Anunoby's place for Game 3 in his first start of the postseason. He recorded five points and six rebounds while making three blocks in 22 minutes.
