After winning his second-round match at the Italian Open on Friday, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic was struck by a water bottle that fell from the stands.

The unfortunate moment occurred while Djokovic was walking off the court at Campo Centrale and signing autographs for fans. He fell to the ground and stayed there for a while before security helped him walk back to the locker room:

Another angle showed that the bottle accidentally fell out of a fan's backpack:

Management of the Italian Open later provided a statement updating Djokovic's condition:

"Novak Djokovic on leaving the Central court at the end of his match was hit on the head by a water bottle while signing autographs to spectators. He underwent appropriate medication and has already left the Foro Italico to return to his hotel; his condition is not a cause for concern."

Per David Kane of Tennis.com, security inspected the bottle that hit him and it "looked to possibly [be] of the heavier, stainless steel variety."

Djokovic defeated Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-1 in his first match since his upset loss to Casper Ruud in the Monte Carlo Masters semifinals on April 13. He started off slow, dropping his first two service games before eventually finding his groove and cruising to victory.

"I haven't practiced with a lefty in a while, so it took me a little bit of time to adjust to the different rotation on the balls," Djokovic said after the match. "The first four games were quite bad for me ... but then I played well."

A six-time Italian Open champion, Djokovic is now 18-0 in opening matches in Rome. His quest for his seventh title won't be easy, as record 10-time champ Rafael Nadal is on the other side of the draw.

Djokovic is using the Italian Open to gear up to defend his title at the French Open, which is set to begin on May 26. The 24-time Grand Slam champion has yet to win a title so far this year.

Djokovic will face 29th-seeded Alejandro Tabilo in the third round on Sunday.
