Packers' Matt LaFleur Had Surgery for Pec Injury: Lost 'a Fight with the Bench Press'

Joseph ZuckerMay 4, 2024

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur apparently hit the weights a little too hard this offseason.

LaFleur underwent surgery for a torn pectoral in April and provided some context Friday. He told reporters he "got in a fight with the bench press" and "lost." Fans were alerted to something being amiss when he had his left arm in a sling during the 2024 NFL draft.

This isn't the first time the 44-year-old suffered an injury you'd more typically associate with one of his players. He tore his Achilles tendon in 2019 while playing basketball.

The Packers proceeded to 13-3 and reach the NFC title game that season, so maybe LaFleur's torn pec is a good omen.

Considering he's already out of the sling, it doesn't look like the pectoral tear will affect his ability to perform his usual coaching duties this summer.
